Merling to play DE for us

The Dolphins are expected to keep second-round pick Phillip Merling at his college position, defensive end.

It kills his IDP potential, but Merling is well suited to be a stout, blocker occupying run-plugger in a 3-4. He will battle Rodrique Wright and Matt Roth to start at right end. Roth is the incumbent there and likely the favorite.

If that's the position that he's best suited for i have no problem with it. The front office made a serious attempt to fix the problems on both sides of the line through the draft which is something to be happy about.

Jeez... are we gonna have a serious rotation going on at DE or what? Merling, Roth, Wright, Holliday, Langford, Starks...

Well they said Starks would rotate at T and DE earlier, I actually think Starks will be given a chance to be our future NT.

the part I don't get is Roth at RDE....he's always played on the left side and I believe that Holliday have played just about everywhere....Either way there's gonna be good competition on that line.

we are stacked at d-line. I mean we are gonna have constant rotation at lineman which is gonna give pressure non-stop on opposing quarterbacks. So for brady and edwards while there line is tired our line well be fresh and ready at crucial points in the game.

I am almost positive that Merling will be asked to be an OLB. He has too many skills to be used as a DE. Ireland even made special mention of his pass rush abilities. Look for him to be groomed to replace Jason Taylor
Better than Chris Long and Vernon Gholston
    PHILLIP MERLING
