Slaughterhouse-Five by Vonnegut
This work is sometimes funny and sometimes disturbing. Vonnegut writes with a tone that is light-hearted. And his repetitive use of the phrase "so it goes" adds a cadence, which basically links the entire novel around the theme of death and war. The time travel aspect of the story "becoming un-stuck in time" wasn't cliche' and used well.
It's not very long and easy to read.
