Joe Paterno to retire after this season

That is the problem, this has nothing to do with the football program. It is like saying Virginia Tech should ban football because of the school shooting a few years back. This was an administration problem, not a football program problem.

I totally disagree with PSU having to shut down football, but your comparison is nuts.

It is pretty ridiculous watching Nublar post now that the shoe is on the other foot. Hypocrisy at it's finest. Cmon Nublar, it's not just mere coincidence that everybody on this board is ripping Paterno except for you, the only Penn State fan here. And saying you hope students vandalize the school? Cmon man. Paterno admitted himself that this is the greatest sorrow of his life and that he wishes he had done more about this. Even he acknowledges he was wrong, but you can't...

I am talking about this on a Miami message board, so yes I don't expect many people to share my view. An area that has their own scandal going on, so I understand the idea of "Hey look, that school up north has something bad going on, see we are not so bad." I get that.

Honestly never cared one way or the other about Penn State and really dont care about our mess anymore. I think most Canes fans generally feel the same way. I just think its sad that an entire organization combined to enable a child molester. No doubt there were about 3 people at least involved more than JoePa, but at the end of the day, his hands are far from clean and he got what was coming IMO.

My big issue is that in some ways Joe Pa is being used as a scape goat. I see people saying he should rot in hell for what he did to the kids. The fact is that he is not the one who committed the crimes. Should he have done more? Yes, but JoePa is not the one that committed such horrible crimes.

I am not a Penn State fan, but I have lived in PA my entire life and go to school 40 minutes away. It's nuts here. Nublar looks calm compared to some people. And it goes both ways. Some are too worried about PSU football, but other act like JoePa raped the kids (and are even calling him a rapist).

Truth be told, I feel he should have been fired (and I don't like saying that cause... well JoePa was an icon in this state) because of how the school's reputation was all destroyed. But the fact that it's coming out that a Cop was informed and did nothing, and others on campus knew and did nothing makes me feel like JoePa is getting too much blame.

Joe didn't cover up ****. He reported the ****ing rapes to the AD and he along with another administrator, and the schools president covered it up. The police on campus were informed, but they did nothing either. Yes Joe should have done more and followed up with it, but he LEGALLY did what he was supposed to do. Every ****ing media clown are concentrating on the wrong people in all of this. It has been Joe this and Joe that over the past few days. What about Sandusky? Why the hell is the media not parked outside his house? What about the parents of the victims? Why are some just now coming out and informing the police? Everyone is focusing on the WRONG person. That is the problem with the whole damn situation.

Joe Paterno is Penn State, and it goes way beyond his accomplishments on the field. What he has done for the school and the state of Pennsylvania for 46 years gets thrown out the window because a former coach was a child predator the AD failed to do anything with what Joe reported to him. That is why this is a damn shame. I am pissed right now, as is all of Penn State. Please don't try and lecture me on this, because you are not from here and do not know what Joe means to everyone. He didn't deserve to be fired this close to the end of the season. He deserved to be able to retire at the end of the year and have his last home game this weekend.

How convient it is to be able to one minute bask in the glory and the next be able to pass off the blame. Do you believe JoePa would accept that sort of logic from one of his players? "Hey coach, its not my fault a rapest continued on for 9 more years. I told my boss and then i looked the other way, since its legally not my fault its morally not my fault either". Hardly.

Paterno knew. In your own words, he WAS Penn State. For a man that preaches values and coined the term "the grand experiment" concerning morality and football, he failed the one time his own ethics came into play. He could have started an investigation. Hell, he could have done something as simple as called the police. He decided not to. Apathy(the put it kindly and not accuse him of looking the other way so he could protect his legacy) is part of this cover up.

And really? I know your enraged and depressed, but your blaming the parents of the victims? Its some conspiracy against Joe Paterno? Its all against Penn State because rape victims took years to build up the courage to come out into the public? Amazing.

And for the record, i live in Tallahassee. Little guy by the name of Bobby Bowden coached here. Actually meet him more then a few times during various charity events. Got into a scandle himself, then got fired in a Brett Favre-ish fashion a few years later. He's still bitter about it. So yeah, i do tend to know about big time coaches and their communities.

As Gonzo pointed out, its quite shocking how misplaced Penn State fans angry is. Then again, as Paterno was the one preaching about values, it really shouldnt surprise me that their fans are more angry that a coach who helped cover up multiple rapings was fired than they are about those rapings in the first place.

To quote Jcane, "Those that don't get it, don't get that they don't get it". You keep saying he did what he was legally obligated to do. The problem is nobody cares. He failed to do what any decent human being would of done. Failed to use even the slightest amount of common sense. That's why Joe Paterno himself admits he should of done more, and that's why the BoT made the decision he won't coach another game.

That's the mindset of very few if any Hurricanes fans. We, and the media, stopped caring about our scandal months ago when the sensationalism of it died because the truth wasn't what Yahoo tried to make it. We're disgusted with Penn State because this is the worst scandal many of us have ever seen. Not because it's worse than what Miami did. That's just hogwash.

Our scandal has been irrelevant since about two weeks after it came out. There were so many holes in that scandal from the get-go that it didn't take long for people to just forget about it.

No doubt in my mind that the **** that went on at Miami happened. The problem is proving any of it. The NCAA isn't going to nail Miami to the wall like many are hoping.
