Eventually the sun will set on their Dynasty. Brady isn't getting any younger and despite what people say, the Pats' success hinges on how long he holds up. It's hard to tell if they have one or two more Super Bowl appearances in them, but God I hope not...

i was hanging with my good freind who is a true pats fan tonight.

he thinks brady's reign is coming to a close.

i agree with him. the pats were not eve truely dominant this season. they will not be scrubs probably ever, but they are not a powerhouse to fear. we have a shot at the division and so do the Yets.

Brady is on the downside of his career and coupled with not having the defense they had until 2007, the Pats are not what they were. If they win the AFC East next season it most likely will be because the Jets, Bills and Dolphins play bad football.

This one is going to sting badly. Not sure how Brady reacts to this, he's a hall of fame quarterback but this hurts his legacy.

Recent history is a funk for Super Bowl losers, but it's a short sample and often not fully representative. Brady was hurt early in 2008 then this season Pittsburgh had an excellent change to make a playoff run before all the injuries. They led the league in YPPA Differential.

Decades ago pre-salary cap the trend was just the opposite, an upstart team needed a Super Bowl rejection before rededicating itself and succeeding. The '72 Dolphins always emphasized how much the loss to Dallas a season earlier stung and motivated them all year.

Belichick and Brady seemed to understand the significance tonight, more emotional than last time. These runs invariably end sooner than expectation. The two of them won several titles in the early stages which was no doubt unexpected, even to them, then lost the shocker in midstream and at peak. This was late in the game, with no more guarantees of a return visit.

I was very surprised and borderline ecstatic, rooting for the Giants but expecting a rather routine Patriots win by 7-10 points. After a season of tinkerbell fluff we had basic football prevail in the end, which in a copycat league should result in more emphasis on pass rush and running game, even if marginally in the case of the later.

Right now NFL football is so superior in the playoffs than regular season it's not remotely comparable. The refs let them play in the secondary without all the ticky tack garbage that makes some games unwatchable during the regular season. Thank goodness for the Steelers/Seahawks Super Bowl a half decade ago. The league took such ridicule after officiating decided that game that penalties dropped by absurd number a year later, something like 30% fewer offensive and defensive holding calls during the regular season than a year earlier. Coincidence? Sure. And the playoffs follow suit. You might get a questionable call here or there but in general the officials are not a major part of the game.

Since they are our division rivals, does a loss like this in the SuperBowl fire up the Patriots or take some of the heart out of them?
Unless the Patsies get some pass rushers many QB's are going to kill them like Eli did tonight. I think that is their main problem. Their defense is ok against the run, but their d-backs get toasted and they have no pass rush. On offense I think their running game is below average. They have become too one-dimensional....throwing it most of the time....you can't blame them with Brady and their TE's and WR's, but they can be stopped.
