not sure how it's the giants fault that brady did a quick snap catching them with 12 on the field.

Ok, so perhaps the title of the thread should be, "Giants bring up issue of possible game changing exploit in rules"

Feel better? We can get back to discussing it now. Thanks.

maybe if it gets used more often like you gave a scenerio for, but in this case, Tom tried to get a free play and a big chunk of yardage. he risked it and was rewarded with 8 less seconds and 5 more yards.

What about fixing spiking the ball which is actually intentional grounding? Never understood why the refs will not call this?
Because it has to be avoiding pressure to be IG. Plus the way they line up in the formation there is an eligible receiver nearby. Spiking the clock needs to stay a loss of down for a clock stoppage is fair.

Except having extra men on the field means your defense has a huge advantage in stopping them.
Normally when you see a flag for 12 men on the field there's almost always one guy sprinting trying to get off the field. In last night's game though there were 2 of those penalties called. When the Pats were called for the penalty, they actually had all 12 defenders lining up as if to try and play with that extra player on the field. I may be wrong but that hardly ever happens. Like I said, there's usually a guy trying to get off the field but doesn't in time hence the flag.

Any coach and team that exploits any rule against the Patriots to their advantage, although in this case it is not so, gets a hats off from me.

I agree that if this was intentional it might have been a smart move by Coughlin, but the thing is that if the Patriots complete a pass in the middle of the field, that's a free time out for them. So there is some element of risk to this strategy.
Me say come, Mister Fisher man, show me da contract

An' it's six mil, seven mil, eight mil bunch

YES, the time rolled off the clock, but the Patriot's got another play because of it and moved five yards closer to the end zone. If Gronkowski didn't have his gimpy ankle he might have caught the Hail Mary and the "Giant's 12 men on the field" would have been the worst blunder in SB history. The Pats have benefited from the rules so often, like the Tuck Rule,,,,so it's karma that something finally went against them.

I don't think the rule says anything about avoiding pressure, although that is why they are doing it. And there are no eligible receivers on the O-line. Many times the receivers are spread out because they are going 5 wide and throwing the ball. Doesn't mean I don't mind it, but if the NFL is going to be so picky about rules, then fix this one too.

That's exactly what the rule states. It's not IG if there is no pressure. Hence the reason you can spike the ball.
