do in free agent and the draft this offseason Misi might end up as a player without a role.
The Dolphins used a second-round pick (40th overall) to draft Misi in 2010, and despite starting 20 of the 28 games he’s played during his first two NFL seasons, this former Utah standout has only contributed 5.5 sacks.

realizes what I’ve been saying for two years…..Koa Misi is a lot of nice things – he can cover, he can stuff the run, he’s versatile, but HE’S NOT a pass rusher.
Not impossible, but slim. However, studies show that 3-4 outside linebackers do take a couple of years to DEVELOP.
“Koa has done a nice job. He’s played the Sam linebacker position for us. Koa has got a lot of versatility. I really like the way he’s developing,” Ireland said, referring to 34 tackles and one sack Misi contributed in his limited role, splitting time with Taylor, who contributed seven sacks as a pass rushing specialist.
“It’s unfortunate that he got hurt at the end of the season because I saw some growth in him there late,” Ireland continued. “We just got to see where he continues to grow. But he’s got to get better.”
Ireland also pointed out the Dolphins don’t know exactly what role Misi could have because they haven’t figured out what defense they’ll play in 2012.
Miami realizes they have to do better than the 41 sacks the defense produced in 2011.
“Pressure players are the core to every defense and you can’t have enough of those guys,” said Ireland, who only drafted two outside linebackers – Misi and Chris McCoy, a 2010 seventh round pick – during his four year tenure running the Dolphins’ draft. “
