do in free agent and the draft this offseason Misi might end up as a player without a role.
The Dolphins used a second-round pick (40th overall) to draft Misi in 2010, and despite starting 20 of the 28 games he’s played during his first two NFL seasons, this former Utah standout has only contributed 5.5 sacks.

    Considering the Dolphins signed

realizes what I’ve been saying for two years…..Koa Misi is a lot of nice things – he can cover, he can stuff the run, he’s versatile, but HE’S NOT a pass rusher.

Not impossible, but slim. However, studies show that 3-4 outside linebackers do take a couple of years to DEVELOP.
“Koa has done a nice job. He’s played the Sam linebacker position for us. Koa has got a lot of versatility. I really like the way he’s developing,” Ireland said, referring to 34 tackles and one sack Misi contributed in his limited role, splitting time with Taylor, who contributed seven sacks as a pass rushing specialist.

“It’s unfortunate that he got hurt at the end of the season because I saw some growth in him there late,” Ireland continued. “We just got to see where he continues to grow. But he’s got to get better.”
Ireland also pointed out the Dolphins don’t know exactly what role Misi could have because they haven’t figured out what defense they’ll play in 2012.

Miami realizes they have to do better than the 41 sacks the defense produced in 2011.
“Pressure players are the core to every defense and you can’t have enough of those guys,” said Ireland, who only drafted two outside linebackers – Misi and Chris McCoy, a 2010 seventh round pick – during his four year tenure running the Dolphins’ draft. “

The only way Koa Misi starts for the dolphin's next year is if he develops into a strong side linebacker. Other than that his potential will continue to be cheap depth that will spot guys at different LB spots in run packages.

If he is not a great pass rusher but he can cover and he can stuff the run then he can play Sam in a 43... If they want him to drop weight to gain some speed as well that can happen.

Sure could have used a record setting star tight end over him.

I don't agree with what your saying here, the SAM LB has strong side run responsibility.

In other words 7 - 10 times the offense will run right at him with either a pulling/lead offensive lineman or a lead block (FB). Koa Misi has to be able to penetrate or atleast hold the point of attack for the other 2 LB's to clean up the play. Koa Misi needs to get stronger, I've seen him many times get pushed around and unable to shed blocks.

Why do you think he sucks as a pass rusher? He's more of a weakside linebacker in which Kevin Burnett has that spot pretty much locked up IMO.

P.S. even if he drops weight that doesn't mean he will get faster.

Miami pretty much blew it in that draft. I like Odrick and all, but the DLine depth was something we did not need to add to and to get a non pass rushing OLB was a mistake.

Koa offers some versatility though and unless you are getting decent value in return (which I doubt) you are better served holding on to him. He has a high motor and with some work in the weight room and if he sheds a few pounds he could play LB in a 4-3.

He was a starting OLB in a 34 and you dont think he is strong enough to take on some blocks? The guy is very strong..The reason he is not a good pass rusher is because he was often facing LT's and he is not quick enough to beat them. Tackles knew that he was not going to blow by them so they would anchor down for the bull rush. The guy weighs 260...Most Sams are 230 to 245...If he loses weight he will be faster...

You make no sense here, you say he's not quick enough to beat a LT???? I don't even feel like putting the energy into responding to you based on that alone. If his only move is a bull rush and he still wasn't successful then obviously he needs to get stronger.

In other words re-read my post and try again...

P.S. He actually faced the RT's, it was Wake's position to face the LT in a 3-4. The article clearly states thats why we brought back Jason Taylor and why he is going to possibly get cut next season.
