WVU officially joins Big 12 - THIS FALL
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia and the Big East have settled their differences. And all it took, as expected, was a very big cash settlement.
WVU and Big East officials announced this morning that the two sides have officially agreed to part ways. Although no numbers were released, the Big East is expected to be $20 million richer. WVU is expected to pay roughly half the amount and the Big 12 the remainder. At least part of the Big 12's contribution will be in the form of a loan that the university will pay back over time.
The agreement allows West Virginia to join the Big 12 on July 1 and begin playing full conference schedules -- including football -- this fall.
