4-3 is best for todays style of play

im a 34 d guy myself. iplayed it in hs and teach it to my player as a coach, but todays nfl is a spread you out passing league. so the swith makes perfect sense.but we need another end (duh) and another fast coverage lb, to cover the likesof gronk grahm ect. this lb could arguably be more important than another saftey. greatsafteys are far and few between. and with more teams spreading you out and killing d`s with a great te, afast coverage lb is a need. then comes the de opposite of wake... we need to beableto trust our front4with preasurring the qb so we can be in possition for coverage. and with someone like mario would be nasty. so of course we need to g9 hard for a qb, and de. spend the money it will be worth it.just my $. 02

I had a discussion about this with a friend prior to this years Super bowl and he reminded me that the teams featured in the super bowl were the Packers and the Steelers..both who use a 34. It just so happens of course that the 34 used was a different one then Miami has just used but I dont know if one is better than the other..You really just need players that fit and can get the job done.

The best defense, 3-4, 4-3, 5-2, whatever will still be only as good as the personnel. If you're loaded on the D line then 4-3 makes sense because it puts your best players on the field.

I am not sold on the fact they we are running a 4-3. But whatever player we get in FA (if any on D) will tell us likely.

I tend to think this is a method of making the draft world think we will draft a kind of player.

If we draft coples (which i am not sold on due to underachieving nature) then we are going 4-3 IMO. This also makes me think we are drafting an Offensive player whether QB,OL or even WR.

Nickle and/or dime is the best base package for today's NFL. With so many teams running spread offense's you need to have 3 or 4 starting caliber CB's.

3-4 is great against the run but when your playing against the Pat's what good is a 3-4 NT against a 3,4 or 5 WR Set? How often is your base 3-4 package actually in the game against spread offenses? 3-4 teams build to have Big strong run stuffers on the DL but what good are hole pluggers when you need pass rushers?

I think unlike in the past when teams ran 3-4 or 4-3 base packages and nickle and dime situational packages teams should be building their nickle and dime base packages with 3-4 or 4-3 situational packages.

Just my option based on the way the league is going.

A 3-4 and 4-3 is just how you line up. Its what you do with those players that define your defense, not how you line up. We may see a change in technique or a decline in 2 gap NT's but I dont think the 3-4 is going away.
