Are you prepared for the Singularity?

No matter how this turns out, I am scared as **** at the implications. Whether a superAI makes humans obsolete or if we humans merge with technology and AI to become immortal techno-gods, neither solution is appealing to me and are deeply disconcerting.

Unfortunately, I don't feel like we can thwart this inevitability. The benefits of technological advancements are too great to stop mankind from unleashing the monster.

There does seem to be a pattern, technology continues to develop at an exponentially faster rate. Only 70 years passed between the Wright brothers first taking flight in 1899, and man landing on the moon in '69; think about that for a second. I have more access to information now than the president did 10 years ago, & 10 years from now it'll be exponentially even greater than that. We are in a proverbial funnel of novelty, which accelerates faster & faster the closer we get to the bottom. Singularity won't happen in 2012 barring something unforeseen, but I'd say within the next 25 years you'll have a gradual integration of man and machine. Cellphones will probably be a part of you, & the idea of an external cellphone will probably seem silly to them. Eugenics will probably be light years ahead of where it is now, & will probably be harvesting organs and extending length of human life. Really scary, or cool stuff, depending on how you look at it.
