I read that they even went after Jefferson's love life with his slave. Who actually was his lover and they had many children together. Politics will always be politics. It's a dirty game. I think the difference is the policies. Pull back the curtain of rhetoric and tone and focus on policies and there isn't much difference between the 2 nowadays. At least with the Adams and Jefferson election the people had a great choice in Jefferson. Adams turned out to be a douche IMO with the Alien and Sedition Acts.

Yes definately about the slaves buth I put out what was the extremes. And Jefferson was a douche to, gave us our first Carville/Rove in hiring James Callendar...who's slander might even make those guys blush and was a thrown into jail. Got out, expected Jefferson to give him a job for going to jail and getting him elected but Jefferson didn't. Normally not smart to cross a Carville/Rove type. But Callendar's credibility had taken such a hit, his attempt at revenge failed miserably and had the opposite affect. What was campaing inuendo about Jefferson and slaves...which was used against anyone owning slaves...Callendear started publishing modern day "tell all books" about Jefferson and Hemings and the kids of hers that where his.
