Two people who are virtually paralyzed from the neck down have learned to manipulate a robotic arm with just their thoughts, using it to reach out and grab objects.
Not every human is a manipulative, opportunistic, letch... or at least that's what I'm told.

“It was encouraging to see that, 15 years after the brain was disconnected from the limbs, it was still able to generate all the neural activity necessary to make movements,” John P. Donoghue, a neuroscientist at Brown University and the study’s senior author, said in a conference call on Tuesday.

That is really impressive. Although the patients were "flying by wire" with implanted electrodes, computers and cables it does give hope to many that are paralyzed. The implications and theoretical applications of this is quite mind boggling.
Now, if they can figure out a way to restore damaged nerve connections(possibly growing them) and heal damaged areas of the brain...

I read this article and I have to say this is really cool. If you could figure out a way to remove the implanted wires and fly by remote this technology could have huge ramifications on the paralyzed and even the blind and deaf.

You could use hearing and seeing devices, arms to help with tasks. Bio-chemical research is so much better than just plan mechanical and electrical, Bio-chem has done remarkable things in naturally through evolution. It will be truly remarkable if you can merge man-made tech into natural organisms.....or completely scary.

I thought this thread was going to be about telekinesis.

Good for those people though, I can't imagine how challenging a life like that must be.
