Ok so all of NY think about the Jets as superior to the Giants? Cuz they had a winning record in 09? Come on, Junc. Im not gonna say the Jets suck, but when you think of NY football-- you think of the Giants... And thats gotta be rough on the Jets, its a lot of pressure
Only if you count 2 gifted games played by playoff bound teams who considered them meaningless with nothing to gain other than keeping their players healthy for the playoffs, did the jest have a "winning season" in 09. As the Colts starters who outscored them 45-27 in a game and a third or so, including 24-zero in the last 31mins when it counted most proved, at best they would have ended up 8-8 if the game 15 wasn't totally meaningless to the Polian and Caldwell in the theme of things. So don't be deluded by the asterisk-worthy 2009: remember Mark MacGwire's HR record - which you can argue was accomplished by cheating, but by the same token he actually had to hit those balls over the fence with no pitchers throwing underhand to him.

Junc loves this. A new yorker who loves to argue. What a shocker.

My dad is from Long Island and he'll argue with a cockroach if it stayed still long enough.

I can remember when Tony said this. There was an article covering the losing streak and the angle of the story was how Tony was keeping the team together and motivated by telling them that no one was going to do them any favors. Then they dropped that quote in there.

I can distinctly remember thinking that it was a pretty ****ty way to keep everyone's spirits high, and sounded to me like Tony was at his breaking point, composure-wise.

I guess we'll see how the transition from "Jersey-guy" Sporano to "Professor" Philbin affects this team.

news is slow, but the new PFT story is pretty interesting... Not much we didn't know already, except this quote....

It’s easy for Philbin to come off as charming, especially since Tony Sparano’s relationship with his team grew so sour. Linebacker

recalled that when the Dolphins started the year 0-6, Sparano told the team: “‘You know what? If you guys want to lose and be 0-16 and get me out of here, no problem. But guess what? I’m not going to be the only one gone, and that’s just the reality of this business.’”

and the Jets think this guy is their savior?

Wait til they get a few losses, Sparano will be talking like this once again.

So glad we have Philbin now
Weren't they saying he was a players coach and that everybody wanted him to stay last year

You mean "sources close to the team" can be wrong??
"The dolphins, which had been cavorting in the surf all along, showed up then. They circled him, keeping the shark at bay, and enabled Endris to get back on his board and catch a wave to the shore."
Dolphins even keep Sharks in check!

Sparano was right. Brandon Marshall is gone for droping many TD passes (2 of which were game winners). Vernon Carey is gone. Columbo is gone. Chad Henne is gone. As much as I dont like him, I dont see anything wrong with what he said.

The situation is no where the same. (I also laughed when I read this early this morning since Tony WAS THE ONLY GUY to leave).

I'm not a Sparano hater, he did the best he could under the situation. Last season was impossible, he was bum funked months before the season started. IMO, this was why our coaches and players were not as ready as others, Sparano and company was not sure if they was going to be here week to week. I have no idea what input Tony had with drafting. I doubt he was allowed to do much shopping.......

As far as with the Jets, he comes replacing someone that all love to hate. They love Sparano simply for that. And his job is to make their offense "simpler". How hard is it to make something easier?

Plus he has Rex Ryan in his corner in NY. While in Miami, Tony had no one who really supported him and would go to bat for them.

Same. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Desperate yes, but I mean, honestly what do you say to your 0-6 team as a coach? Sure some of the blame is on him, but at some point players need to take responsibility.

He didn't call plays for you guys.
No he didnt, but he WAS the head coach, and had final say on any playcall. Those headscratching calls were every bit as much on him as they were on Daboll/Henning. Make no mistake, Tony is HIGHLY conservative, he's admitted this.
