Buffalo Bills on draft day is comedy

No, seriously. Ivan Reitman is making a comedy movie based on the Bills GM on draft day.

Ivan Reitman appears to have found his next project in the form of Draft Day. Deadline reports that the Ghostbusters director will helm the football comedy, written by Rajiv Joseph and Scott Rothman for Paramount Pictures.

Draft Day is said to center around the NFL's draft and sees the general manager of the Buffalo Bills going to any length to secure his top pick.

Undoubtedly, this was inspired by the previous administrations of Tom Donahoe and Russ Brandon. Those two definitely presided over comedies of errors, resulting in such first round misses as Mike Williams (OT, 2002), JP Losman (QB, 2004), and Aaron Maybin (DE, 2009).

wasn't Maybin w/ the current regime? and where have the great picks and results been since the new regime took over? Your best players last year- Fitz, Fred, Johnson were all from previous regimes

Nope. Buddy Nix was hired in Feb 2009 as a scout by the Bills, but Russ Brandon and Dick Jauron still ran the draft. Brandon supposedly fell in love with Maybin's Combine works, and Jauron was a big fan of smurfs, especially on defense.

After Jauron was fired and Brandon kicked "upstairs" to get him out of the football operations, Nix was named the GM in late 2009 or early 2010. Nix had been assistant GM in San Diego under AJ Smith for years. He was a victim of the nasty feud between Smith and Marty Schottenheimer as he apparently supported Schottenheimer.

Nix's original hiring may have been a favor to an "old friend" with Buffalo connections or it may have been a "try out" to see how Nix fit in the organization. The Bills have done this before. They gave Dick Lebeau a job as assistant DC after he was fired from Detroit and was looking for a new job. The Bills weren't interested in a new DC at the time, but the favor resulted in Lebeau becoming the DC in Pittsburgh where his blitzing Ds helped the Steelers win 2 Lombardis. In 2011, they hired Dave Wannstadt, recently fired from Pitt, as a consultant, and named him DC after firing George Edwards. If Wannstadt works out as well as the Lebeau and Nix moves, the Bills defense may run wild in the AFCE, but we'll see how things go.

Oh, ok. Thanks for clearing that up. My apologies for being wrong.

Nix has also revamped/upgraded the scouting dept.

Perhaps his best move which gets little press is he brought in Doug Whaley from Pittsburgh who fills the role of Assistant General Manager/Director of Pro Personnel. He is being groomed to slide in seemlessly when Nix finishes moves on.
