    5????
What do they do if a pregnant lady comes in and has only medicaid and would be #6? Reject her?
Let me rehash that: government is spending too much on Medicaid yet they are paying crap (which goes totally against this "government is wasting money"). And if government is spending too much, yet they pay private medical facilities crap, and REAL insurance companies pay 30-40% more what does that say about our insurance industry?

So the birth center your wife is working for is nothing for lower middle class and if a lady comes in with an emergency she would be rejected if she is not one of the lucky 5?
Medicaid pays crap for the birth center (natural and far cheaper birth, around $5,000) but pays $30,000 for c-sections all day long at the hospitals. If anything government is wasting money by low balling the cheaper birth service while paying full price to the far expensive service. But it really goes beyond that. Hospitals and doctors don't like midwifes and natural births. It goes against the status quo of c-sections and drugs. Which has made the cost of birth inflated to record levels. If we had the same vaginal birth rate that we did 30 years ago the cost of birth would drop dramatically in this country. By the tens of billions or more. Unfortunately the status quo doesn't like that and they do what they can to stop that. Medicaid has just become an arm to that cause.

This is a private practice. The owners and midwifes decide who they will take on as a client. This isn't a hospital where you just show up and have a baby. All these women join up early in their pregnancies to receive prenatals and all the medical needs they need throughout the 9 months. Very similar to an OBGYN. The medicaid cap was put on from strictly a business point of view. If you have clients with insurance who will pay you $5,000 or medicaid clients who pay half that. Which one would you do??? From a business standpoint they couldn't turn a profit if the majority of their clients were medicaid that simple. Not without firing staff and offering less services. Having a cap allows them to offer better quality service, employ more staff and turn a profit. It's simple economics. This is something that's happening all over the medical field especially as the people on medicaid rises. Being on medicaid means you won't get top quality service from many areas in the field.

That was actually quite informative. Thanks.

I had been meaning to read "American Sniper" for a while but never got around to it. When I saw that Chris Kyle had been killed, I finally downloaded it and Im about 60% through it. Very good read.

Nuts that he was running around kicking in doors in ****ing Fallujah and then ends up getting killed by a whacko back home.

Question, because RonPaulForums has been a complete ****storm over recent events.

Does Kyle seem like an overall good guy or a bad guy? Because I've heard some disturbing descriptions of this, particularly his remorselessness, and that he seemed to like his job a little too much.

Oh he definitely thoroughly enjoyed killing insurgents and he is pretty matter of fact about it. He refers to them as savages quite often and states how much he enjoyed putting them down. I wouldnt say he seems like a bad guy though. He went through hell and back at times to get his boys out of sticky situations. Some of the stuff he was a part of is crazy and Im not sure how he made it out of Iraq alive. Definitely worth reading if you like reading all that kind of stuff. Really gives you a good perspective into what war is actually like in the most dangerous parts of Iraq. Some of his stories are pretty funny too.

I run a wound care center that sees people that are having a hard time healing due to health issues or injuries. We provide some very advanced procedures in addition to hyperbaric oxygen.

Nonetheless, we accept pretty much every insurance including Medicare but can not accept Medicaid. The for-profit hospital that hosts our clinic made the decision that Medicaid reimbursement was just so low that they would lose money on most every patient. We do accept Medicaid for children but don't see very many due to the nature of our services.

What shocks me is that on top of the horrific reimbursement rates, the hoops that you have to jump through with Medicaid are ridiculous in trying to get paid. Additionally, their administrative costs have got to be nuts and that goes for Medicare too. That is where commercial insurers gain a huge advantage in my opinion. The government insurers spend most of their money on paperwork and bull crap rather than providing the best care possible by attracting the best doctors, hospitals, and services.
