    Clint Eastwood speech

During most of the speech, for which Eastwood did not use a Tele-Promp-Ter, Eastwood riffed and improvised both for himself and for the president, talking about Guantanamo Bay and unemployment, among other topics. At one point, he pretended the president asked him to stop talking. "I'm not going to shut up," said Eastwood to the chair. "It's my turn."

One clearer moment came when Eastwood went after Obama directly, but it, too, missed. "I never thought it was a good idea for attorneys to be president anyway." (Romney went to Harvard Law School about 20 years before Obama.)

Eastwood tried to make the Romney campaign's case when he said: "When somebody does not do the job, we've got to let them go." The applause hadn't stopped when Eastwood made a throat-slitting gesture and added: "I'm speaking out for everybody out there. We don't have to be mental masochists and vote for somebody we don't really want in office."

I will remember you TeddSlimmJr and Spesh, after we win it all, I'll just sit back and laugh with fond memories of my superior football IQ.

I know the guys is the epitome of being American, with all his tough guy roles and cowboy movies, but I think it's time for him to step out of the spotlight. I've seen him speak a few times over the last few years, and he just doesn't articulate well anymore. He is awkward, hard to understand sometimes, and just seems to be on a downward decline. I did like Gran Torino though...

If I could take your pain and frame it, and hang it on my wall,
maybe you would never have to hurt again...

Dude's in his 80s. He's a legend, he's earned the right to be different.

I thought it was definitely a nice break in the monotony of "job creators", "socialists", and "the sanctity of life" we hear so much about.

He had a handful of zingers in there but it was mostly a garbled mess. Rubio really electrified though...then there was Robot Romney.

It was awful. I can't believe that they actually allowed that. The crowd loved it though. But what do you expect from people where the majority things earth is only 6000 years old and Forrest Gump was a Docudrama. Talking to an invisible President is probably their highlight of the year.

Its not Eastwoods job to talk about issues or policy, its Romney. He was there to fire up the crowd. He did....sorda. He certainly wasnt what Romneys campaign expected when they brought him in.

edit: and the internet memes over it is cracking me up.

Not every one of us Repubs believe like that. Clint Eastwood included, he's more of a Libertarian lean. Parts of his speech...er whatever...didn't tow the party line.
