    Player Ryan Tannehill's Mindset

It's your first pro debut as a starter on a national stage. An away game against a team your franchise has never beaten. You will face a fortified defense in a hostile environment. All eyes are upon your every move. Your fans are counting on you while odds are against you - according to the experts. You know that your offensive line will not hold their ground on every down and that you must improvise with below par recievers. Your new head coach will be critique by how well you perform, mainly. You were selected in the first round so you are expected to win games.

What's your mindset if your are Ryan Tannehill at game day, before the first snap?

He's knows NOBODY expects him to do anything against the Texans. I expect him to sling it and go in with a "F*** it" attitude.

He had to go through a QB battle with Matt Moore during the pre-season, I'm sure he'll still be nervous, but I think the most nerve-racking part is behind him.

I'm not sure what he'll be like before the snap but I bet he doesn't sleep well Saturday night just because of the excitement he must be feeling. He's gonna be jacked up to play. My guess is he'll be jacked up on that first snap too. It may take a few throws before he settles down.

Being an ex-QB from pop warner all the way to semi-pro (with Middle, High School and College along the way) I can tell you this: He's beyond nervous. It doesn't matter how experienced you are, each new step up in level of competition you take, you are NERVOUS. Period. I don't care who you are. And this is the biggest step of all. It's how you are able to channel that nervous energy that makes the difference. You have to be able to overcome it. It's tough. But the you just have to settle into the game plan and know what your and the teams limitations are. Play to your strengths. Don't "over try." This first game isn't about impressing people necessarily. It's about settling in to a groove and expanding on it as the season progresses. Trust the people around you. Don't try to do too much. You just have to be smart with the football. Don't over think the situations. Let it come to you. Make good reads, go through your progressions. It's really about trust - in spite of what everyone thinks the limitations of the team are. Don't say **** it. That's not the right attitude.

Right now, he's probably borderline hyperventilating. He's talking to any and everyone who will listen. He has a lot of nervous energy and he's looking for reassurance from whoever will give it to him. Publicly, of course he's putting on the front. Hell, it's human nature. You think Peyton Manning wasn't damn near scared to death before his first career start? Think again. They all are. What separates good/great from busts is how you handle it. It's poise, maturity....intestinal fortitude, if you will. There is immense pressure. You can either succumb to it or let it be a motivating factor...He's got the skills, the tools. Does he have the mental capacity? That's the question. I think he does. I hope he does. He seems very composed. And he knows the offense. But he does have to trust the people around him. They need to step and not let him down. That could be a very major determining factor.
