RIP to Steve Sabol.
I was also struck by how old he was, almost 70. He looked extremely youthful in the 80s and 90s which is when I was most aware of him.

Sad day for the NFL.

He looked in his 50's ..not 70!

Sad day indeed. I too remember coming home from school every day while my parents were still at work and watching NFL films instead of doing my homework. Good times.

In honor and remembrance of Steve Sabol, here's maybe his most underappreciated contribution to the National Football League. And that's the NFL flims soundtrack.

What a great man. What sad news.
I hope this thread stays up on the main page here for a while. I always thought of him as an honorary member of the Dolphins family, and I think the fans of most teams feel the same way. I shudder to think what things would be like if he had not come along.
I always wanted to write to him to thank him but never did, thinking it would jinx his recovery by being a tacit admission that the end was near.
Thank you, Steve.
RIP Sabol, he's the reason why I'm a huge football fan.

Very sad...I'm in the business and had always hoped to work with (or for) Steve someday.

...wasn't Shula upset with Steve for the having the "computer" tournament of the greatest teams of all time and having one of the Steelers teams beat the '72 Dolphins?
