That's like the old lady who got millions of dollars in damages from McDonalds when she spilled boiling hot coffee on her cooch in the drive up lane...nobody told her to place her coffee there where it could spill. There is only so much companies can do to avoid lawsuits from people who act stupid.

Well, not using a chemical that can cause lung disease and heating up your coffee to the point where it can cause third degree burns is a decent place to start. Also, the McDonalds coffee woman only got about 600k not including the costs of all her skin graphs and follow up medical expenses.

This is such BS. So many people who have legit cases lose there lawsuits because of **** like this, I know first hand about getting ****ed in a lawsuit.

Well, you have to realize that in many cases, punitive damages constitute most of amount ruled against. Punitive damages are awarded to deter the defendant from carrying on the practice that got them sued in the first place. When dealing with mega companies such as McDonalds, a few thousand is peanuts to them so it's gonna require usually a huge number to deter them from doing the samething. While 600k may seem like a stupid amount, it did exactly what it was intended to do. It got McDonald's to change and that's why you see all sorts of labels warning people of hot coffee
