Miami Dolphins’ Reggie Bush not what he was expected to be — he’s more

Bush is the hardest-working player on the Dolphins. He’s not one of the hardest-working. He is the hardest-working player on the team. He doesn’t miss practices and after those are over, he’s pulling a sled or running sprints or catching passes on his own.
Philbin joked that after one practice this week, he was eating a hamburger in the team lounge when he looked outside “and [Bush] was still on the practice field working,” the coach said. “So he’s been impressive.”\
A few weeks ago, before he exploded onto this 2012 season, Bush was seemingly being set up as a player who was going to be replaced after this season. He is in the final year of his contract and not only had the club not talked to super agent Joel Segal about a new deal, but also, Miami drafted Daniel Thomas in the second round last year and this year added highly regarded Lamar Miller in the fourth round.
In the world of well-run NFL franchises, that’s how it is done: You acquire a running back. Use him up. Then you let him go before having to spend big money on what is increasingly a diminishing asset in today’s pass-happy NFL.
But now that course might change. After Bush went off against Oakland, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland and Segal talked about having future contract discussions. Call it the preliminary step toward re-signing Bush.
    The question now is two-fold:
    • Can the Dolphins afford to keep their best player before he hits free agency?
    • Can the Dolphins really afford to potentially lose their best player to free agency?
If Bush continues his current trajectory and the Dolphins retain him, it should surprise how their plans shifted. Then again, Bush has been surprising.
He’s certainly not what anyone really thought he was.

Pass happy didnt get us our first win this year now did it? the run game still exist and will never go away in football, people are just too in love with the aaron rodgers of the world.

Reggie bush is everything i said he would be on this team the moment he got here and the dolphins are becoming a running first team just like it would become with philbin. This team just dont have the weapons to be pass happy and philbin soon realized it in the texans game. Only problem with bush is he has lamar miller threathing to take his job on a dime, i dont care how hard of a worker he is, miller is 1st round talent and hungrier than anyone on this team. I Called it week 8 lamar miller will have the starting job and im stickin by that. I would still resign bush though long term.

It's all the offensive line staying healthy and together. Bush and Miller are both good backs. They have vision and quickness as well as speed, and can get away from people once they get to the second level. Thomas isn't the same kind of back.

I like what Miller has done up to this point, but if he takes Reggies job this year it will be due to injury

You say that now because you have not seen what he is capable of. I believe he is actually better than reggie, but time will tell.

I'd love to see Miller and Reggie on the field together
even use Reggie instead of Legedo-do. Reggie could be catching more passes

Would not mind seeing that...just heard a stat that reggie has caught more passes than any other running back in the last three years....i just wonder how he would do against cbs. The thing that makes him so deadly is that he gets matchup with linebackers..

But he has exceeded expectations...one thing that ireland did right was getting reggie here and was on the cheap.

Daniel Thomas was impressing in that Houston game too before the fumble/concussion (what came first?). I don't think his vision is as good as the other two but when he gets a crease he eats yards like Pac Man eats dots on the screen and blue ghosts. I love the idea of Daniel Thomas getting the screen pass. The D expects Bush to be that guy so if Thomas is in there the element of surprise is greater.

Bush seems to have disdain for the Darren Sproles-style role. So, fine, just use him as a decoy that way. If teams have to be extra wary to protect against him coming out of the backfield then that should open up more room for TEs to work.

This is crazy. Miller hasn't even come close to proving that hes better than Reggie. Everything you're saying is theoretical. Even College Reggie was better than College Miller. Im not saying that Miller isnt going to be a good player. You just need to pump the breaks a little bit. The numbers don't lie.
