But the defense has been living dangerously. They have made very few impact plays – only two sacks (both by Randy Starks in the first half of the opening game) and one takeaway, an interception by safety Reshad Jones on the final play of the win over Oakland.
The Dolphins are minus-3 in turnover margin.
“We do have to knock the ball loose a little bit more,” coach Joe Philbin said. “There’s no question about it.”
Philbin said the Dolphins were willing to give up some yards against Oakland as long as they protected their second-half lead.
“Sometimes, you’re a little more tolerant of some yards getting gained against your team as long as you’re keeping them out of the end zone, which was kind of the case,” Philbin said.
