Every time the dog ****s or pisses on the floor kick your wife or girlfriend, it will motivate them to take the dog out more often.

He has **** on my floor twice already since 5:00

I haven't had a dog since I was about 6 or 7, so any housebreaking tips would be much appreciated.

Haha. Great looking dog Bump. Here is a pic of my guy (Smokie) when he was a similar age (he is two now). Mine is a boxer/collie cross and he has such a nice personality, such a pleasant and friendly fellow. I am glad to see you did not crop and dock him

    Cool pooch, buddy!

Crop & dock? Hell no! (it's gonna suck enough when it's time to get him neutered)

We got a new dog about 2 months ago. Named her Coaley. She ****s everywhere and barks while I'm trying to sleep. I hate her.

4 dogs in my avatar all can do more than 10 tricks. The 5th is passed away now but could do 30 tricks.

The key is to train with dog treats. Keep the treats available on your person so you can reward the dog when it does a command successfully.
When training state the dogs name and then the command. (e.g. Fido, Sit.) If multiple people are training the dog make sure you are using the same commands so as to not confuse the dog.
Keep your commands short and speak clearly and directed at the dog. You can also include hand signals with the verbal command if you'd like the dog to respond to hand signals also. You should never reapeat commands. Tell them to sit and if they don't do it, make them sit by pushing down on their butt. Then praise the dog for following your command. Give them a treat. If you keep repeating this the dog will eventually sit down on its own. If you repeat command you'll get a dog that doesn't listen the 1st time.

Be the leader of your dog. When you walk him on leash keep them behind you and make sure you are walking them instead of them walking you. It is easier to get this done when they are small instead of waiting until full grown and they are pulling you.

Potty training is just a matter of contantly taking the dog outside and telling it to go pee or whatever you decide is your bathroom command. This command you can repeat. You can't really force the dog to pee. LOL. Eventually it will relate this command to the act of going to the bathroom outside. My dogs will pee on command.

Good luck and keep us updated on the progress you make.

Hey Bumpus...great puppy. I would agree with the poster who talked about crate training your dog. Usually when I get a new puppy they spend most of their first couple weeks in a crate. I still walk them a lot and stuff, but their crate becomes their home for them and they usually learn not to pee or poop in their crate as they don't want to have to lay in it. Usually after a couple weeks I could leave the crate door open for them to come and go as they please. After feeding them take them out of their crate and outside to do their business and then really praise them a lot. Say, "Good dog," rub their head and really make a big deal out of it.....I know it probably sounds dumb but your puppy will figure out that he gets a lot of praise (and maybe a treat?) when he goes to the bathroom outside. My pups figured it out really fast. Occasionally they will mess up and still go in the house, but most of the time they get it. My puppy chewed up my linoleum in the kitchen of the first condo I bought and I just looked at him and felt like screaming at him, but I just ended up just laughing as he didn't know any better. He also chewed on some floor boards and slippers, but he grew out of this puppy stage. I have an 18 pound Pomeranian right now, and I am thinking about getting a Siberian Husky. I hear Boxers are really smart and good around others. Here is my dog Kipper.

Zonk is learning quickly about where to ****.

He's pretty good about not barking/whining at night too.

Now, if I could just do something about his nails & teeth ****ing my arms up when I'm playing with him. (He did finally decide yesterday that he likes tug-of-war.)

Thus far, Zonk is quickly learning:
    - Outside? (Do you need to go potty?)
    - Sit.
    - Off. (Quit chewing on me/furniture/shoes.)

He's highly motivated by both praise and treats, & he's pretty damn smart. He's gonna be one helluva great dog when he matures a bit!
