It was their way of ensuring people involved in the process actually had a steak

I was going to say the same thing. Im shocked that Locke of all people was so lost when he made that post. The founding fathers made it to where only landowners were allowed to vote. I believe it was a 50 acre minimum of something like that. To run for office, you had to own a larger number. I just happened to study this Thursday night in class btw. The professor was speaking of this exact issue.

It was their way of ensuring people involved in the process actually had a steak in the outcome of these elections. They did not want people with nothing to lose being able to have a say.
    I stand corrected.

I still think the spirit of the law should be taken into account here. If we limit who can vote based on an arbitrary and subjective variable, such as intelligence level, it creates a slippery slope. Initially it's homeowners, business owners, people with degrees, etc. What happens in 20 years, when people get upset again, that they decide that no, the only people really smart enough to vote are CEOs and PhDs? I could see this route quickly turning our "democracy" into an oligarchy. And probably much faster than anyone expects. I mean, some would argue that's what we have already, but this would ensure it turns into a literal one...

If I could take your pain and frame it, and hang it on my wall,
maybe you would never have to hurt again...

Heres my question: who would be deciding the parameters on who gets to vote? According to Michele Bachmann, the majority of the people on this site would be considered to stupid to vote.

Lockes right, idiots largely cancel each other out.

I will remember you TeddSlimmJr and Spesh, after we win it all, I'll just sit back and laugh with fond memories of my superior football IQ.

Really smart people still vote for Democrats and Republicans. It isn't like intelligence makes people better voters.

Im not taking a stance either way. Just stating what I learned about what the founding fathers were trying to do when they were negotiating the constitution.

You disagree with my history professor?

Now, the guy may be a socialist like some of you, but he does have a PhD in the field and his focus of study is the constitution. I yield to the man's expertise.

Edit: Oh. You could be simply making fun of my incorrect use of the word "steak" as opposed to "stake".

Obama recently honored Cesar Chavez. People confused him with Hugo Chavez and complained on the Internet. This is why this story doesn't really matter.

Did they really? I guess I'm entertained more than others since Cesar Chavez is kind of a big deal here in Albuquerque. I find it odd that anyone could confuse the two, but I'm sure most outside of the Southwest wouldn't know who he is...
