Player Can WR Jabar Gaffney boost Dolphins?

The Dolphins have been getting by this season with a thin group of receivers. After starters Brian Hartline and Davone Bess, there isn't much proven depth.

That is where Jabar Gaffney comes in. The Dolphins signed the veteran receiver Oct. 3, but he has yet to play in a game.

Gaffney was a surprise cut this summer by the New England Patriots. He caught 68 passes for 947 yards with the Washington Redskins last season, though health was an issue.

Now, Gaffney is on his second AFC East team and learning a new up-tempo, West Coast offense in Miami.

    What’s been the biggest challenge?

“Just picking it up and seeing the signals like I’m hearing it,” Gaffney explained. “I’m always used to just hearing the play calls in the huddle. Now you got to see the signal, and that’s how you know the call.”

Gaffney, 31, is a proven playmaker. He’s done well in previous stops in Washington, Denver and New England.

Hartline, Bess and a healthy and productive Gaffney could be a solid trio for rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The Dolphins have yet to determine Gaffney’s role, but the receiver seems open.

Miami are definately going to need two Wrs come next year. The have to go one top wr in the free agent and one top draft wr, not those 5th and 7th rds picks we're all used to. ihave not confident in any of these wrs outside of Bess and hartine.

Taking bets on him not being activated for the game.

I want to see Gaffney in this game, but not at the expense of possible miscommunication leading to INTs. We can't afford to turn the ball over. While talented, Gaffney's journey through four or five teams in his career has to throw up red flags. Is he one of those guys that just doesn't pick up offenses well? If he is inactive for this game, then don't question the coaching staff, question JG. This offense isn't an easy one to pick up, especially considering its pace and line calls that he has to learn. But he could help a lot if out there in three receiver sets if he's able to get a grasp of what's going on.

Great point about being on so many teams over his career but he is talented. If he can catch on to our new offence he could be a keeper. If he can't then get MMoore in the game and lets see what he's got.

I know we need Gaffney out there but I'm impressed that our coaches aren't pressing in keeping him out until he's got the playbook down 100%.

Can WR Jabar Gaffney boost Dolphins?

I hope he's got it, afterall he got NE's which seems pretty complex. If he can be what he was last year he can help.

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.

Gaffney picked up NE's playbook, Chad Johnson did not. Gaffney>Johnson.
