I'm an employee of The Mouse, and I can say we all crapped our pants when we got the e-mail from Bob Iger announcing this acquisition. I personally don't like that they have a release date for the film without a script, crew,cast...nothing. Most big studios do this now, a majority of the time the movie is crap. Hopefully they hire the right people.
It depends. Lucas has been said to have a partial story written that takes place after the original trilogy. Not to mention, that is three years away. That is a LOT of time do get a move shot in. Hell, they are going to make a third hobbit movie in the time the other two are being released. So it's not impossible. Especially if they adapt the Thrawn trilogy.

This could work out well, but I feel like it's probably Disney trying to milk Star Wars.

No different than Lucas. He just finally got sick of it and took the money and ran.

Never was a fan of the Star Wars movies so this news means nothing to me.

Disney should hire Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan to write and direct the movie. He wrote and directed the awesome pilot for Breaking Bad and the last time Disney pulled a writer/director from TV they got Joss Whedon and he delivered the Avengers.

I wonder if they'll get Brendan Fraser to play Han Solo. That seems to be the way they do these things.

Actually, if you have sen the show Supernatural. I think the guy who plays Dean would make a good Han Solo. But that is just me. I also think Ellen Page (Juno, Inception) would make a good Leia.

I wonder if it will follow the storyline already put forth by the expanded Universe? If they do I would expect it to happen 10 to 20 years after Jedi and Grand Admiral Thrawn will be in command of the remaining empire. Leia will also be a Jedi at this point in time adding to the story. Luke's son Ben and Han's and Leia may also have children at this point Jacen Solo is the oldest I believe.

Personally I would have rather had a series that showed the ascension of Yoda to Jedi Grand Master. That would have started 900 years prior to any movie made.
