Make sure that you read that quote entirely and understand it before you make your mind up that I am crazy...well at least crazy about that. I do think that the military should account for about 50% of the budget but don't want to spend any more on it than we already do. I just want to cut that much of our spending on all of these Department of BS this and Department of BS that. Cut the Federal Government down about 40% as well as most all entitlements originating at the Federal level and delegate it back to the states where it was supposed to be in the first place. Yeah, yeah, I know...more conservative BS...y'all won the election...whatever. Just because everyone else thinks I am crazy does not mean that I am not right. Also, please don't go down the road that I have been influenced by Limabaugh, Hannity, Beck, etc. as they piss me off almost as much as they do you. I am and always have been a true conservative...small Federal government, personal responsibility, and MYOB!

I agree that there are shenanigans with the uber rich and taxes. They fund both parties heavily and get hooked up for it. That simple. However the taxes debate is a smokescreen to distract from the fact that our government is totally irresponsible and reckless with our money. You want to raise taxes fine. But if you don't use that money to balance the budget and pay off the debt then you're a douche.

In all honesty, I wouldn't have a problem with them raising taxes to reduce the debt IF they cut spending to the bone first. I adamantly refuse to pay higher taxes because the buffoons we have had in Washington - all of them...Bush, Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Boehner, Waters, Boxer, Frank, Dodd...ALL OF THEM! - are too irresponsible to operate within the nation's income. I vote Republican as a default but wish like heck that I had the choice of someone who was fiscally conservative as heck that couldn't care less about social issues...let people do whatever they want to do (within the law) as long as they are responsible for the consequences. If you want to marry a dude, marry a dude. If you want to get high, get high. If you want to kill your baby, have at it. However, you have to live with the consequences and pay for them. That includes medical care for AIDS, drug addiction, abortion, depression, whatever. You get to go to jail for driving stoned. You also get to stand before God and be accountable for your decisions. God gives you the choice to do what you want and I don't figure that I have the right to take that choice away, everyone just has to be accountable for those choices.

But what I don't get is how do you think the military is more valuable than say social security? Social Security provides more than half of the total income for almost 2/3 of households comprised exclusively of those aged 65 and older And at least 90% of income for a 1/3 of those 65 and older. So just screw them they should be on their own? Do you understand why the safety net which is SS was design for?

More than half of all women 65 or older are widowed, divorced or never married. These women rely on Social Security for 71% of their income, compared with 64% for similar men. And 1 out of 4 relies on Social Security for all her income. Social Security keeps 42% of unmarried, older women who receive its benefits out of poverty.
Unmarried African American women receiving benefits rely on Social Security for 79% of their income, Unmarried Hispanic women count on it for 80% of their income. What do you consciously suggest we do for these old hags? Do they deserve to live their dying days with dignity?

What If you become severely disabled and can no longer work? As a citizen you don't deserve help from your government ?

Social Security has its own dedicated revenue stream described above. And Social Security is forbidden by law from borrowing, so it cannot deficit spend.

A General Welfare clause is a section that appeared in the constitution, as well as in some charters and statutes, which provides that the governing body empowered by the document may enact laws to promote the general welfare of the people, sometimes worded as the public welfare. In this has been used as a basis for legislation promoting the health, safety, morals, and well-being of the people governed thereunder.

So you are essentially saying a budget of 1400 billion of which half would go to defense in a world where we control the largest nuclear deterrence and most powerful nations do not want a huge wars because all major economies are interconnected. Yay talk about a wise use of your money. At least Ron Paul acolytes cut defense and its' oversized wasteful budget.

I agree with Paul Ryan on most fiscal issues and sticking to the role of government specified in the constitution but don't agree with him on most things past that.

No I don't have a huge problem with Social Security because disbursements are fairly proportional to a person's input. I agree that it should continue to run at a surplus and should not be commingled with the general budget. You may not believe it, but I am quite generous and compassionate...I would be the last one to let anytime else suffer but I will hold people accountable. I also have no problem with disability SSI or death benefits for kids or spouses.

My point is this, we need to reign in spending dramatically. That includes the military too. The military is just going to always command the lions share of the budget, IMO. It isn't going to happen anytime soon so don't worry about it. It wasn't going to happen under Romney either. I am like a dinosaur, people don't think like me much anymore.
