I'm pretty sure you could balance the budget by cutting defense in half. Is there any reason we should be spending 800+ BILLION a year on defense, when "defense" is OFFENSE in most cases? Military spending is out of control.

Putting it in real terms, its a essentially a person spending 1/3 of their income on home security on their house in Boca Raton... Do you know of ANYONE who spends that much on home security? Even that comparison isn't apt... A more apt comparison would be if the majority of that "home security" spending was actually spent hiring people to go into the ghettos and take out potential burglars before they came near their house.

If we as a nation are ever serious about getting the debt under control, we must take a slice out of our military budget. Do you think we will ever come to the point where people recognize this and do something about it?

Cut defense, raise taxes, & reform entitlements. It's the only way to balance the budget and reduce the deficit. Any party/politician/pundit who takes 1 of those 3 off the table isn't really serious about the debt.
