Why wasn't Ireland fired after the end of last season, and why didn't Miami bring in new front office along with a new coaching staff? I don't think his firing is a forgone conclusion.

Gaine has the stench of Ireland all over him. Carl Peterson will be the GM next season.
I disagree bro I think the promotion to Asst. GM was for a reason to push Ireland. I also think it was a backup plan for Ross should things with Ireland go south, that Gaine could take the roll, and keep Joe and his staff in tack.

Gaine has the stench of Ireland on him, but Peterson just stinks.
Only the Dolphins would have a Chicago Bears Ballboy as their GM

If Ireland is fired, I hope the Dolphins interview Bobby Grier - Houston Texans senior adviser/Associate player personal or Chris Grier, Bobby's son and Miami's Director of College Scouting. During 1995 & 1996 NFL drafts, Bobby was partial responsible for drafting Ty Law, Ted Johnson, Curtis Martin, Terry Glenn, Lawyer Millory, and Tedy Bruschi. Grier and Parcells worked in tandem, very much like the dynamic between Ireland and Parcells. Grier and his staff would do most of the background work on college prospects and Parcells would listen to Grier's recommendations before a final decision was made.

But what led to the fallout with the Patriots and Parcells was Grier wanted to draft a speedy receiver in Terry Glenn with their 1st round pick however Parcells wanted a defensive linemen. Sound familiar. Anyways, Kraft sided with Grier which led to Parcells quote about shopping for his own groceries.

As for the failed drafts from 1997-1999, I attribute that to Pete Carroll not being in-sync with Grier. Case-in-point the success of Pioli and Belichick together but failures in drafting when apart. Philbin knows what kind of players he wants and Grier have been able to find them.

Finally, Bobby Grier has been with the Texans from 2000-present carrying various titles, with all those players drafted from demeco ryans, kareem jackson, barwin, reeds, cushing, owen daniels not including the obvious Watt and Mario Williams that one can say Grier didn't have any positive input into the these players selected. Hell if he wasn't useful he would have been dumped long ago. Instead he is the longest tenured.

    Here are so articles:

In addition, Bobby Grier was the only NFL executive to speak with Lloyd Carr about Tom Brady. At this time Grier was still GM before Belichick fired him and Pioli had just came over from the Jets as Asst. Director of player personal.

Here is the article about Grier and Llyod Carr:

Order of GM candidates to interview(based on preference IMO)
    1. Bobby Grier
    2. Ethan Waugh(49ers Trent Baalke right-hand man/Senior Personal Assistant. He is responsible for scouting multiple defensive stalwarts)
    3. Chris Grier
