Most people would just grow their own unless what they sell at the store is the kush of kush. And for cheap too. If not the black market would supply the demand. The black market in Colorodo and Washington is probably booming right now.

No one "dying" for something to be legalized, would be one of the original funders for 'Partnership of a Drug Free America' (as ironic as that is). Nor spend the money they do lobbying to keep it illegal. I believe their mind set is that they don't want to compete with a recreational drug that's A) A billion times more healthy than tobacco, & B) Can easily be grown in your own back-yard.



So what? It's always been federally illegal & that hasn't squelched any of the growth of the medical cannabis industries in several spots across the country.

The Federal Government will be late to the party on this issue. They have no reason to legalize it on their own volition because they have no incentive to do so. Picking on California at this present moment in time is one thing, but when 30-40 states have it medically legal it will be a different story. It's similar to gay marriage in that respect. The Fed's aren't going to amend the constitution for gay people until the majority of the state's have already legalized it.

Which they really shouldn't do in the first place. The federal government currently has no jurisdiction in the field of marriage and it should really stay that way, regardless of anyone's position on the issue.

I wonder if any states would still have laws preventing blacks and whites from getting married if that were the way it was.

It wasn't done through the federal government. This is an area where they currently have no jurisdiction.

A law which has now been almost completely dismantled by federal courts and isn't even being defended in court by this administration. Thankfully the Supreme Court has defined marriage as a civil right, which has made the success of these legal challenges -- both to DOMA and to various state laws -- a matter of when, not if.

1 out of 8 are in jail for MJ, most all are in state and local jails. Leave it for the locals and states to continue putting potheads in jail along the lines of prohibition in NC...if a county wants to be dry they pay to enforce it.

But there won't be some great weight lifted off the federal budget. If legalized, the 5000 DEA agents and resources would be split into the ATF (or just now just DF, Drugs and Firearms) and IRS for revenue collection, Immigration and Customs to continue the fight against smuggling, FDA regarding illegal prescription drug use, etc.
