That is exactly right, the dog, and your announcement that you were armed "disarmed" the situation, you gave the would be criminals the chance to abort, and everyone ended up safe.
I shake my head when people say guns NEVER help you in these situations. Complete BS. There are countless stories that debunk that claim. Having a good dog is the best thing to have if you have a gun. They will give you the time to get your weapon.

    Re: Firearms in your home?

3 rifles (.270, .270 Weatherby Magnum, & .308), .50 caliber muzzle loader, 12 gauge, and a .25 caliber pistol. Unfortunately, my pit bull died of old age but she successfully protected my wife during a break in...no BS. Guy would have been dead if he ever made it through the door...pissed off pit and wife with 12 gauge. Pit crushed door handle with her teeth and dented metal door with her shoulder...dude cut and ran without ever setting foot in house. Best dog ever...loved our kids and was gentle with family. Still miss her every day!

I have my Doberman and my 1911 on my night stand. I should have said that before. All my kids are older and have took their hunter safety class.

I always feel safe with my pit around. Best dogs ever no matter what people say about them. I have a 100 lb colby pit who's awesome. Great with the kids and great with house protection. They're just naturals at it.

If you guys get a chance, read the article on the huffington post titled "I am Adam Lanza's Mother".

It tackles the issue of how this country has NO METHOD to deal with kids that are like this. I can vouch for that as I know what my mother in law had to go through with my brother in law.

His damage has been controlled to this point, but who knows what the future will bring. She seemed to have the same thing told to to her when she looked for help, well if he gets arrested we can do something...

Well he has been arrested, several times, spent some time behind bars, but will not spend any serious time there until he gets caught.
