Sanchez is scheduled to make 8.5 Million next year. So he will compete with whoever will be his competition. I doubt the Jets can actually afford to have a 8.5 Mill backup QB.
Trading is out of the question. Nobody would give a dime to trade for Sanchez. Heck, I think the Jets have to attach draft pick to trade Sanchez.
Releasing is not an option either. He is guaranteed money will kick in and the Jets would be hit with a 15 or 16 Million cap hit for next year.
I think the decision to start McElroy is based on the facts that game is at MetLife Stadium. The crowd would be brutal. I think they would even boo pass completions by Sanchez. The other fact is they need to see what they have in McElroy. Teebow will not be a Jet after the season anymore. Only viable option is McElroy and the Jets have to decide if he is worth a dime.
But believe me, we will see Sanchez next year again.
