Im not picking and choosing at all... Am I highlighting the most obviously ludicrous passages? Yes.

You can't ignore what the bible says on certain topics and then accuse others of picking and choosing!

They are Christians because they believe (literally) in the Christian bible... Not because they're a church. They feel that they are doing everyone a favor by warning us of our impending trip to hell... That's where the good will towards men piece comes I for them.

The bible is trash... Written by a bunch of virginal men during the time of the Roman Empire and before. It has some good messages in there, but also has a lot of things in there that are just horrible. WBC exposes Christianity for what it is IMO.

While i don't share your wholesale contempt for the bible, i will say this. Men are fallible, of that there is no doubt. Many people consider Christianity a crutch, and if it is, so what? What Christ embodied and preached during his time on earth was love for one another and forgiveness of each others trespasses. Christianity isn't about the bible, it's about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who came as Lord and Savior. He intercedes with God for us. His teachings were simple and straight forward. Like i said, he fulfilled all the old cannonical laws so we wouldnt have to anymore.

He taught that it wasnt what went into your mouth that made you unclean, it was what came out of it.
He taught that the Sabbath was Holy, but in his passing, the old law is fulfilled and we now live in the time of the Gospel
He taught that even though a woman was a prositute, subject to punishment by death, that the person without sin was the only one to throw the first stone. At that point He forgave her and she repented and followed Him

They are only proclaiming to be Christians, using select passages from the OLD Testament to decry and harrass people they view as sinfull. They ignore Christs examples of reaching out to sinners with love and forgiveness, to encourage the sinner to repent.

The bible has a lot of great messages, even if you don't believe in God or Jesus. There are a lot of worse examples to follow that Jesus my friend.

There is no "Christian" Bible.....Theres the Bible, including the Old Testament and the New Testament. The New Testament is about the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus and his apostles.

Didn't mean to turn this into a Theology discussion. I cant really judge the heart of anyone. But just going by their actions, they in no way embody the message of love and forgiveness that Jesus espoused

WBC may not embody your personal view of Christianity, that does not mean that they aren't Christian. They believe in a Christian god and in the Christian scriptures.

They also are right wing because of their views if homosexuality. I bet you could copy and paste quotes from WBC up against GOP politicians and pundits and they would be indistinguishable... Would be much harder to do with liberal politicians.

I wish that your views were those if mainstream Christians, but the evangelical movement is going strong. Hell, we have senators who deny evolution as a scientific fact based on THE BIBLE. Clearly you're capable of rational thought aside from the whole believing in magic thing (admittedly I'm assuming that you believe in the virgin birth and resurrection, which maybe you don't.)

Thats where i think you, and they are confused. They arent following Christs gospel, they aren't following His disciples scriptures, they're selecting scriptures from the Book that Moses gave as if they were the same as the laws that Christ gave us. In order to be a Christian by the very definition, you have to follow Christs teachings. They demonstrably do not.

As far as being right wing on homosexuality, i think you'll find an overwhelming majority of the Dems base, i.e. Blacks, have a remarkably hate filled vitriol for gays.

As far as the virgin birth and the resurection, i can't really speak to that. I do know that my relationship with God is personal, and does not hinge on anything besides my belief in Him, and my trying to be more like Him everyday. For sure i fail, maybe even more than i succeed. But a true Christian is someone that believes Christ is the path to a personal relationship with God. Not religion and laws and scripture.

OK....my soapbox aint strong enough to hold me, but i appreciate the intelligent dialogue. Dont see that as much as we used to around here

I'll let this one lie but two quick points.

First, your views on "blacks" are very skewed. They are not the democratic base- they don't really have a "base" if you look at the statistics. Polls show a vast majority of democrats supporting gay marriage and the opposite amongst republicans. I know you guys don't care for polls but your assertion here is not based in reality.

Second, I was not aware of Jesus writing any gospels. All that we know of him is based on second hand accounts, some written decades or centuries after his death allegedly occurred. As such, all of Christendom is based on these gospels written by his disciples and assembled by Constantine after his conversion (all based on a dream he had FYI). If you want to weight some gospels above others then that's your prerogative, just please don't pass any laws on account of what's written in scripture.

I try to watch Fox news from time to time. I like to view a topic from all angles and generally find it amusing. It's also a little bit scary how far right the right have actually been driven. Honestly I think fox does the Pubs more harm than good IMO.

Christ never spoke against homosexuality, but the bible clearly does. You don't have to twist anything, you can just read it. Same goes for working on Sunday, *thinking* about boning someone's wife, or considering other religions (just to name a few)

Christians are supposed to follow the teachings of the scriptures, right? The same scriptures that are used to justify all sorts of looney beliefs that even mainstream Christians hold... Genesis is the easiest to point and laugh at for anyone with an elementary understanding of physics and biology.

If you're saying that Christianity is a contradiction then I agree and would ask why anyone would be a Christian it after accepting that fact.
