You're right, it COULD be a slippery slope ... but any mature and decent person could give us a good starting point. Another starting point might be words you don't want people to say around your young children.

No freedom is absolute. Next time you're in court try flipping off the judge or yelling obscenities at him.

Using polite language won't make anyone a better person, but the language you use does give people a specific first impression. While not always accurate, there are worse indicators.

Okay, I'll start: "God," "Jesus," "Allah," etc.

Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should. We have steadily lost our decorum in this country. I remember my dad taking me and my sister to this big softball tournament when we were kids. In the parking lot, some guys were drinking suds and getting rowdy like guys do. Well, when they dropped a few F bombs, my daddy went over and had a little chat with them. They apologized and were genuinely embarrased they got that far out of line.
Nowadays, people dont think twice. So, i believe the guy had every right to flip the cop off. I just wish he had the common sense not to. There are better ways to express displeasure that arent so offensive to the public.

Now on this forum, you guys get flipped off every day. Revel in it, because unless you let your kids read this stuff ( and what kid would want to willingly), we're all adults in a closed room here

Absolutely. It's all about personal responsibility. You also have to deal with the consequences of your actions. You may have the right to flip someone off, but that won't stop them from doing what your dad did or even going as far as punching you in the face. It shouldn't, however, end up with you being in jail.
