So, all in all, how much did we spend to buy the UAW votes for Obama? Not that they wouldn't have voted for him anyway...so is this this and the bailout money more of a payoff?

Well, this money was more about buying the public vote, not the UAW. And in buying it, they artifically blew up the price of used cars and hurt the environment they say they were trying to protect.

Yeah, it was a well thought out manuever. Just like the bank bailouts.
The government implemented a program that had unintended consequences and/or an outcome opposite of what they were going for.
