    OTA Buzz

Barry Jackson's Sports Buzz column for May 21, 2013 has lots of juicy tidbits: Info on Grimes, Keller, Egnew, and many more. Hartline catches a bomb, Gibson lines up in the slot ... tons more, such as:

Quarterback: Ryan Tannehill, operating a fast-pace offense, was sharp on intermediate routes and completed 2 of 3 deep passes – to Binns and Brian Hartline. He couldn’t connect with Mike Wallace on another deep ball that was well defended by Grimes. He was patient, under control, and more polished than the Tannehill who was just out of college at this time last year... Aaron Corp, trying to challenge front-runner Pat Devlin for the No. 3 job, gave no indication to believe he's an NFL quarterback.
    and

Running back: Lamar Miller opened with the first team and showed his usual good burst. Daniel Thomas and Marcus Thigpen got work behind Miller… Jorvorskie Lane opened at fullback.

    Instant Analysis: Dolphins OTA #1
By John Congemi on May 21, 2013 at 3:13 pm

    1) Tannehill Takes Control – From the first snap of the workout, there was a certain confidence and demeanor that Tannehill put on full display. I felt like he was in complete control of his surroundings and looked like a seasoned quarterback. His velocity, control and location of the football was right on and looked comfortable throwing to his new toys!
    2) Tempo, Tempo, Tempo – It was noticeable right from the start that this team will dictate and operate the way they want to play football. The goal will be to play with more efficiency on offense, stay on the field and convert third down opportunities.

    So pumped for the season!

    also this:

And Keller likes that the Dolphins give Tannehill total freedom to “change a lot of things up and do anything. That’s what Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are allowed to do. It’s cool they’ve given him that much leeway.”

Awesome. Also, I don't like the bit about all of those punt returners.. Just let Thigpen do it. Gibson/Hartline aren't going anywhere and Grimes, our only legitimate corner doesn't need to get hurt doing it. This reminds me of Ronnie Brown on kick offs.. I trust Philbin has more sense.

I dont get the Hartline returning punts either. Also caught in someones "tweet" that Thigpen was used as a running back more than expected.Kinda like part of the running back competition which is good BTW.

JP himself said their would be ALOT of experimentation this time of the year. I wouldn't buy too much into some of the stuff that's happening now /w players and roles.

Keller should love going from Sanchez to Tannehill.

everything revolves around the development and growth of this qb i don't really care who looks good in probably shorts and a helmet if that in otas...the real players will step up in pads...you can learn things about a qb in this setting but you're not gonna learn much about who's a football player and who's not til they start popping them pads...

that said the grimes reports on how he looks are very encouraging...i know the guy can play football and yeah he looks and is undersized but it's all about his explosion and burst and the reports are encouraging so far...

there's always guys that step up in otas and mini camps that go ghost once the pads come on....

i'm not a fan however of richard marshall coming back from injury and being auto plugged into the starting boundary job day 1 of otas...not with how much he struggled getting his head around and finding the football in vertical coverage...

It's early and there's not a better option right now. I wouldn't put Nolan Carroll or Patterson in there above Marshall at this point. I don't think the competition for the starters (outside of Grimes), nickel and dime backs will get serious until training camp starts anyway.
