    Potential Free Agent: Antwan Barnes

I remember back a few years ago that Antwan Barnes was a talked about name for potential Free Agent pass rushers for Miami. He signed a 2 year deal with San Diego that has since expired. Should Miami go after him? He had a good year in 2011 posting 11 sacks and 2 forced fumbles while playing in 16 games. 2012 didn't go as well, with only 3 sacks in 11 games before going on IR with a hamstring injury. He's 28 and local guy , so maybe he can come home and play in a situation pass rushing role for the Dolphins.

If his price tag is still cheap there's no real down side to offering him. You can always draft a guy anyway, and you can always cut him in camp if you're not liking what you see. But there aren't many guys that can run the arc on pass rush downs like Barnes can.

Be a nice get if the price was right.

I'm down with what ck said, I mean, who would you rather sign and not make it even to the roster next season? Barnes or Westerman, or a Naanee, or... well the list goes on. I like the potential. But what about Vernon?

Personally I don't think Vernon is enjoying consistent pass rush success unless he moves inside on pass downs and plays over a guard a la Wallace Gilberry, Henry Melton, Karl Klug and Pernell McPhee.

I can't see why we'd be more interested in him now, but it's a mistake I'd be glad to see rectified. Doesn't he have some character issues? I seem to remember something about that. Could also explain why Barnes didn't much action on the market two years ago. But whatever, in my opinion he can rush the passer and "situational" guys like Barnes and Bruce Irvin are worth more on a snap by snap basis than most players, imo. There's certainly a need. Coyle seemed out of answers by the end of the year on how to get Wake one on one matchups. The rest of the pass rushers weren't doing enough to help him scheme wise.

But like I said, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

He is the type of player you take a chance on and it could pay off 10 fold. He usually got the defense fired up here in San Diego.
