Player Dolphins Working to Lock up SS Reshad Jones

Looks like Miami is trying to get Jones locked up for the next 4 or 5 years. This guy will be great for years to come. Great News.

The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are currently trying to sign SS Reshad Jones to a contract extension.
Jones turns 25 in February and is entering the final year of his rookie deal. He emerged as a legit top-five safety in 2012, grading out third in Pro Football Focus' ratings behind only Eric Weddle and Jairus Byrd. Jones is a building block for Kevin Coyle's defense. We'd expect him to target a deal similar to that of Raiders SS Tyvon Branch, who inked a four-year, $26.6 million contract last offseason. Branch's deal contains $17.6 million guaranteed.

This needs to happen. It'll give a lot of us more faith in Ireland as well.

After his play in 2012, Jones deserves a 4-5yr deal. Hopefully, Ireland can get this sewn up, but I am not holding my breath.

One thing I have to give credit to Ireland for is that he rewards players when they deserve it. With Wake and Bess' extensions, if the players work hard enough and produce. They will get what they deserve.
    R. Jones deserves a new contract, and I'm glad this is the first news of the off season.

He "held out" of voluntary workouts for 10 days. He showed up on April 20th and got a new contract May 6th.

But it was well known why he was holding out and he is our best defensive player.

Negative spin. Wake's holdout was not during training camp and we were working on it during that time. We had to clear cap room for the deal. If you look at the deal it was an excellent contract for both sides which was a huge plus for Ireland. I'm not saying that Ireland is awesome but the two extensions he did last offseason were A+ (Wake and Soliai)
