Violent Games Legislation Introduced to US Congress

Not to mention pretty much all of Shakespeare. Just in Hamlet there are several ghastly murders, more than a hint of Oedipus Complex, the open contemplation of suicide (which thousands of children are forced to memorize every year), and a scene where the main character holds up a skull and talks about the friendly bag of meat who used to use it.

We are overdue for a good ole fashion book burning. Clearly the only form of entertainment our children need is the bible. No violent and gruesome deaths in that literature.

And i see why you and Tyler are so twisted. Thankfully, i had a adversity free childhood because i followed instructions: never, EVER, feed a gremlin after midnight. It made me the well balanced role model i am today.

Seriously though, I was allowed very few PG-13 movies until I was like 11 or 12. I wasnt allowed to watch any movies with cursing for ages, presumably so I wouldnt grow up and curse.

Opposite for me. Recently when visiting my father over the holidays i glanced around some of the books i had read growing up. Skimming through one i was stunned by how much profanity, violence, and adult themes including sexually explicit content were in it. Then i recalled memories of my father handing me Starship Troopers and allowing me to watch movies like Alien.

Hilariously, later that evening my father snapped at me for cursing in front of my sister(a grad school student). Ah, the ironies of life.

BTW, where were all of you sissies when they toned down the violence in Bugs Bunny and Road Runner cartoons to save children from violence on TV?

Dehumanization is the point of most military training. You can't specifically point to video games for that. No person could kill anyone, enemy combatant or not, without having that person dehumanized. As far as desensitized, sure. But it's the same as someone who watches war movies. If you single out video games, you better start doing something about movies and TV shows too, because MORE people access those than they do video games and they are just as desensitizing as the most violent video game.

I'm pretty sure I was 8 years old when Looney Tunes were still being produced. I don't think my opinion carried much weight back then...

That movie actually made me scared to feed anything after midnight. I was scared that gremlins would start running around my neighborhood, drinking scientific potions and becoming super smart and singing Frank Sinatra songs. Admittedly, I would totally have a Mogwai if they were real. They are way too cool of a pet to pass on...

LOL....cant single out JUST video games...but as an ingredient in the overall recipe, its a fair assumption.

Kids knew there was no magic ACME company, or a piano dropped on your head would kill you...but it was so over the top and ridiculous, it came off as amusing. Now, you can actually be a recon marine or a desert op specialist, use the same type of weapons and go on patrols just like them. Just something to think about.

Back when my grandpa was in declining health, I picked him up one day to carry hm by our place for lunch. He was having trouble getting in the truck and I had to help him in, which clearly annoyed him. He hated being helped. As we are going down the road, he looks at me and says "boy, if you live to see 70, find a bus to step out in front of because you dont want to be alive any longer than that."

The only reason video games is in the cross hairs again is because the NRA put it there.

As for violent video games, movies, cartoons, books, what have you. It all boils down to the environment the child is raised in. Which I am sure this has been brought up.

If the child sees a fictional person beating someone up,or killing them, and doesn't have a parent around to tell them that is is not right to do that, yeah, they are going to mimic what they see on the screen. Or even worse, they see these things on screen, and then also see them at home because of an abusive parent, again, they will mimic it.

But so long as you have a parent that actually loves and cars about their child and pays attention to rating systems. Then kids can play these games, watch these movies, so on and so forth, without turning into a psychopath.
