We're 7th in the league in sacks - he's doing fine all by himself. We're 26th in the league in passing yardage - our WR's are not doing fine all by themselves.

Numbers dont tell the entire story. We have posters on here who form all sorts of convoluted stats to justify how awesome the team is...even though weve had 4 consecutive losing seasons.
To win consistently in the nfl you need to do three things: acquire a franchise quarterback, protect your franchise quarterback, hit the other teams franchise quarterback. Teams like the Ravens, Steelers, Packers, and Texans have figured this out and have targeted pass rushers early and often in the draft.

It may not have been a choice but WVDolphan, is correct, it's all about the quarterback play. We can't score zero points at New England and pretend it was an impressive zero points. In horse racing they called the Belmont Stakes the race of no excuses. That's what we need in 2013 from Tannehill, or whoever our quarterback is. Sixteen games with a remarkably healthy roster throughout should equate to zero excuses to begin with. But somehow we prefer to believe our receiver caliber is third grade level, and conveniently look the other way when Tannehill, for example, throws it smack to Patrick Chung at the end of the third quarter at New England, only for Chung to impersonate Sean Smith and drop the simple interception.

We need to run the ball often, and pass the ball well. That means 28 rushes per game and 7.5+ yards per attempt. Hold the opposition to 6.5 yards per attempt or fewer.

Defensively I'd suggest an interior pass rush. All the edge guys in the world don't particularly bother a great quarterback. He's got time and he senses he's got time. The design of the play may not even be going that way. A back can chip an edge rusher and merely deflect him off stride. But a rhinoceros up the quarterback's face inspires panic and ducking. A back invariably gets run over. A pass rushing defensive tackle cleanses the entire team, shortening the play.

Wide receiver, then cornerback.

Cornerback need is glaring since I believe both Sean Smith and Richard Marshall are goners. If by some miracle Dee Milliner from Alabama or Jonathan Banks from Mississippi State is still on the board at #12, you draft him. Wide receiver you can address in free agency, as the potential free agent class is very deep with talent there.

Realistically we are still going to be in a rebuilding mode next season. We need upgrades & talent in a lot

of areas. We have a decent draft. So our essential need for next season boils down to Ireland not screwing up said draft

Fasano is the only keeper of the group due to his blocking and red zone receiving - Clay had his opportunity to be that vertical tight end that any contemporary offense needs and he rewarded us with being a ghost. You can retain Fasano fairly cheaply, as his skill set will not command a large payday.
