GM Miami Herald suggests CB Richard Marshall is a candidate for offseason release

The Miami Herald suggests Dolphins CB Richard Marshall is a candidate for offseason release.

The Fins signed Marshall to a three-year, $16 million deal last offseason, but he struggled in coverage before rupturing two disks in his back in late September. The repair required a "daylong" surgery. Marshall is owed $4.55 million in 2013, and cutting him would save $3.02 million under the salary cap.

There is no pressure to cut any of these guys. Let them come to camp and battle it out. Cut them before the season opens if need be.

He may have struggled because the disks were bothering him before they ruptured. I agree let him get into camp and compete, if he struggles, release him.

Of course there is reason to, in order to use that 3 million elsewhere on a more important player with a stronger upside. This guy sucked and you never fully recover from back issues. Move on while we can. He hardly played last year so it's like we never even had him in the plans.

Start gathering players as opposed to cutting them loose. Cut him in camp if need be.

    start gathering good players.

if the plan in the front office is to resign the majority of the impending free agents we have, which is going to cost a lot of money, "all" that cap room we have is going to disappear rather quickly. in order to resign our guys, and make a play for one of the big targets in FA (WR), you need to cut as much money off your cap as possible... and cutting a player who is coming off an injury, overpaid, and not very good seems like an easy way to shave off some bucks right away.

by waiting until training camp, you would allow yourself some relief in order to extend guys... by doing it now, you get rid of an overpaid player while also allowing yourself more money to accomplish whatever the FO is aiming to do... which is as good as guess as anyone's right now

Marshall has never been a good starting defensive back so big deal cut him.
