This guy just didn't pan out...I agree with most. Bring him to camp see how he does and then cut him if he cant hang. Luckily we are no in dire need of cap room beign 40 Million under so we can afford to keep him for now.

    start gathering good players.

if the plan in the front office is to resign the majority of the impending free agents we have, which is going to cost a lot of money, "all" that cap room we have is going to disappear rather quickly. in order to resign our guys, and make a play for one of the big targets in FA (WR), you need to cut as much money off your cap as possible... and cutting a player who is coming off an injury, overpaid, and not very good seems like an easy way to shave off some bucks right away.

by waiting until training camp, you would allow yourself some relief in order to extend guys... by doing it now, you get rid of an overpaid player while also allowing yourself more money to accomplish whatever the FO is aiming to do... which is as good as guess as anyone's right now
Exactly right, it all depends on how much of our own free agents we resign before the opening of the new league year. With our 46M$ in cap space, figure if we resign the following free agents at these cap costs:

    Long: 8m$
    Smith: 6m$
    Hartline: 5M$
    Bush: 5m$
    Starks: 6M$
    Clemons: 3M$
    Fasano: 3M$

It leaves us with only about 10M$ in cap space to sign our draft class and to spend on other free agents, not enough.

So you better cut Marshall and Patterson to give us another precious 7.5M$ more, then you could sign someone like Jennings or Bowe + our draft class...

    I get pissed when I lose $10.
Imagine how Ross feels just throwing away millions.

I doubt we spend on Long or starks, and I can see letting clemons walk too.

Uh pretty sure we're not resigning everyone. Why would we when they aren't worth a **** and only amount to 7 wins for four years straight.

Only ones on that list worth resigning is Bush and Hartline. Everyone else can go to another team.

meh. not sure how you can pin this one on jeff. Esp. if dude was injured after we payed him.
We overpaid, played him out of position, he sucked, then got hurt. So maybe Ireland gets a pass for one but the other three? Pffft.

That was just an example, I know that we will not resign all of these guys.

Personally, I would keep Smith, Long (at the right cost), Hartline and Starks... The rest can hit the market and if the market drops for Bush and we can't find anybody else, maybe I would resign him cheaply.

I would keep Marshall through camp and let him compete for the FS job with a rookie draft pick, I would cut Patterson and try to resign him for less and let him compete for the slot spot with Carroll and a rookie...

Unfortunately, its part of a rough, and tough physical game. Players will get hurt, and its sometimes career threatening. It would be great if he could bounce back, but with back injuries - who knows?
