    Not really.

None of the players we signed were signed to start for us, they were small deals to add depth.
Pretty sure Ochostinko, Hicks and probably Garrard were supposed to be starters

Garrard was the only that "was STARTER", and even he signed a 1 year deal.

oh don't start with that again. First you and I have no idea what dynamics played in the dolphins training facility. we have no idea what conversations played out between reggie wayne's agent and ireland. Niether of us knows if an offer was made if wayne actually wanted to come here without manning, nor what amount it would've taken to bring in a reciever that is on the wrong side of 30. Just because he had a great season, in no way means he would've had a great season here, nor does it mean he'd continue to have great seasons down the road. A lot of ifs, when it WAS clear we'd entered full rebuilding mode, not championship mode. So please stop with the Ireland wasted money and didn't bring in reggie wayne. Finally a point you and others NEVER addressed, was how hard would it have been to redo another player's contract to free up room if we DID indeed want to sign reggie wayne. You guys keep ignoring that little bit for freeing up money, you act like it wasn't even an option.
The jist of this defense: Good free agents don't want to play for us and even if they do we're too cap strapped to sign them, can't blame Ireland for that...

Marshall looked descent when he played but who knows how injured he might have been. If he comes back he must be healthy and he must restructure his contract. If both happen he good be solid depth for us.

meh. not sure how you can pin this one on jeff. Esp. if dude was injured after we payed him.
well maybe his years of being a subpar cb with carolina which had him on a low budget contract for Az but somehow conned us into a fairly big contract for a guy of his caliber

Actually in this day and age we always know when teams are trying to sign players, lets not try to be naive. wayne stated he was open to dolphins never said only if manning comes and his resigning with Indy shows manning had nothing to do with his signing. we didnt need to redo any contract to sign wayne because it was the same money as Marshall , not to mention we carried over salary cap money so money was not an issue just our stupidity

Guy was pretty lousy in his limited action this year. I doubt major back surgery will make him a better player.

we never had a shot unless we threw a stupid amount of money at him.
we never took a shot so u can kill that tune. It was reported before he signed that the money he was asking for was not substanially above what he signed for. I do agree we never had a shot because we never tried to sign him much like we never had a shot to hire Harbaugh because we were too stupid to have an opening

Well if we rolled over cap room we were not as strapped as the ireland apologists would have u believe

I liked the signing when it looked like Ireland was addressing our terrible depth issue at CB and Marshall looked like he could be a decent nickel, then we went ahead and traded Vontea.

I never like signing a guy to play nickel to basically starter level money esp a guy who has been as mediocre as Marshall has been in his career

None of them were signed as starters, they all had a chance to compete for starting jobs, but none of them joined the team in that role. Last year's free agent class was more about depth signings and competition with the draft being the main focus of acquire talent to be the foundation of the team. Every veteran free agent they signed, with the exception of Richard Marshall, was signed to a one year deal. Which means that they would be free agents this year anyway if the team hadn't already cut them. Richard Marshall will go to training camp, and I expect him to make the 53 man roster.

Reggie Wayne was never really an option for this team for a few reasons. He was either going to stay in Indianapolis or follow Manning. The Wayne to Miami rumors were contingent on Manning coming here. Despite Wayne having another good season, where did a 33 year old(at the time, he is now 34) receiver fit into the long term plans?

Ireland had $11 million entering free agency last season, now he will have $45+ million this year. I expect he will be targeting true starters this season instead of one year contract gap fillers.
