Lets not overpay an average DB.......Clean house build in the draft.

You don't let everybody walk and hope to replace them with uncertain rookies.

Smith is a "good" corner and as the #2 behind a legit CB would be a good signing IMO. He has his moments of greatness and struggles against quicker WRs. Nothing wrong with 6 mil a year.

SAMMY WATKINS IS THE BEST WR IN THE COUNTRY & FUTURE MIAMI DOLPHIN!
Rather take a look at Sam Shields. Though he's RFA.
Here's the problem...Smith was a 2nd round pick and probably our best CB...but guess what? He's average at best and a disappointment considering his college credentials, draft status, and expectations. All of our CBs have terrible ball skills (Carroll is the worst...it's a joke that he was actually a WR at one point in college). I hope we sign Smith to something reasonable just b/c we suck at CB, but if not, buh-bye. The Fins sucked w/ him and wouldn't be much worse without him. I'd much rather spend the money on Long than Smith.
The 2011 agreement was supposed to bring player salaries down a little in the short run; that's one of the reasons why the salary cap was lowered instead of raised from 2009. A lot of teams just haven't got the memo and are still overpaying average and sub-par players.

Apparently common sense isn't so common. Well said.

IF the Fins can sign Smith for decent numbers -- say 6.5 or so per year, maybe 4 years -- then they just helped their draft, imo. In this fashion: They took care of one potential hole before the draft.
On the flip side, letting Smith walk means another huge hole to fill, position wise.
I think Smith is an average CB overall, BUT he does bring good things to the table, one of them being his ability in the redzone. His height gives him an advantage in the RZ, and the Fins D was pretty good in the redzone this year. Coincidence? Not completely.

Ive personally never.characterized a guy who cant locate a ball, let alone make a play on it, as " good" or "solid".... looks like i need to get an updated dictionary.
Just sign him.

Yep. Dude is supposed to be a solid veteran corner and he still can't locate the ball. He's too conservative as corner. Afraid to take any chances and jump a route. Loves giving up 12 yard cushions. Sean Smith blows.
