I don't think that we could have got more than about a fourth if he didn't sign an extension, if that. With an extension, maybe a third and a conditional late rounder. His injuries killed his value which also means Ireland would be nuts to give him anywhere near $10 mill. Maybe about $5 mill with a lot of incentives for playing time and quality of play.

The question is who do we bring back?

    Hartline wants 5-6

    Long wants 10

Smith wants 6 years 7 mill per.

These are all too much. we can't just let them ALL walk.

I say pay Sean. 6 years bothers me but hes worth that amount per year. If we can cut a year off I'd be happy.

**** Long. 10 mill just isn't worth it.

I'll give Hartline 4-4.5 per year
smith is the last guy to bring back. That's a lot of money for a guy who can't make plays on the ball ( 5 career ints in 64 GS) and is a HORRIBLE tackler. Pay Long and Hartline - they'll settle for a little less in the end.

Not sure how this is shocking. Has anybody ever gone into a salary negotiation saying, "Let's talk cash! Here's my first demand: Minimum wage, preferably with no benefits, but I am willing to negotiate!"

At the time we were looking like a potential playoff team and jettisoning him would have been self-sabotage. Had we been struggling I would have pulled the trigger in a heartbeat

The Miami Herald reports free agent LT Jake Long is believed to be seeking at least $10 million annually, and that the Dolphins are "pessimistic" about their chances of re-signing him.
$10 million is hardly prohibitive for a top-flight left tackle, but Long has been anything but that the past two seasons. However, he'll still only be 28 in 2013, and there should be no shortage of teams willing to gamble on a return to form if he reaches the open market. The Dolphins are believed to be unwilling to offer Long more than $6-$7 million per season. There's a long time between now and free agency, but Long is looking less and less likely to remain in Miami with every passing day.

thats a lot of money. It's bothersome that all our FA's are demanding so much.
This is actually good news and gives me even more hope that Long most definitely will be back. If that's all he's asking for then that means he's giving us a hometown discount. Way to go Long. Sign him up, Jeff. Don't eff this up.
