If government is so bad, you all should go check out some of those countries with no government. It's become trendy to bash the government. Like a new internet hipster movement. But not one of you has ever lived somewhere like Africa or Asia in one of these countries with a figurehead President and no real control over the people. It's all well and good until you don't have someone making sure your water is running, your trash is being picked up, and no one is looting your house when you leave. All of you bemoaning the government don't understand that your ability to even post on this forum is due to the fact that the government has made sure our phone lines stay up and running across the country. That's the most ironic part of reading people call the government useless on the internet...

Locke, I will continue to bash the government, i have that right because of many people that came before me, not because of ANYONE in our current government.

Keeping our phone lines up? I was unaware that the government did this, but if they do, good for them, they are almost as good at that as drone bombing funerals in Yemen, or keeping the greater LA area supplied in cocaine.

I talk about this government because this is where I live, this is where I was born, if you would like to talk about government in Africa, or the lack there of, it might be an interesting topic, but honestly I do not know too much about it.

Not a good enough excuse to ignore how terrible our government has been with laws and our liberties.

There's always something worse. Doesn't mean we should settle for crap because of it. Besides it's mostly private companies and people who work on those phone lines and interwebs.

In that respect, yes. It sucks that it isn't cheaper. But you've got to consider that it's mostly forcing companies to stop denying people coverage. I still don't like this bill and wish they'd have done more, but it's still a first step...

It is not that the government cannot do anything right. It is that the government is stepping into arenas that it has no business being in and then everyone wondering why things are so screwed up. The problem is not the government...it is the people of this country that have shirked personal responsibility and have sought the government to fix the mess. People are too entitled these days, all you hear anymore is how this is not fair and how they deserve this or that. You are entitled to life, liberty, and the PURSUIT of happiness...the happiness is up to you. The government is only doing what we ask it to and what we allow it to. It will, however, come back to bite us eventually.

Just out of curiosity, based on what? When has the government ever done anything more efficiently than the private sector.

Bingo. That's the one thing I still don't understand about liberals. They trust the government so much and all they do is waste money. I wish the government could be a one stop solution in a perfect world, but it's not possible.

Aren't there many ways companies are ALREADY getting around this, like by making employees part time, or just paying the fine that is much cheaper than buying insurance?

It seems like we're going from denying some people private coverage to inadvertently taking private coverage away from a lot of people.

If this is true then isn't it another example of government spending a lot of money to make a problem worse?
