Long, Pouncey, and Incognito are the strength of OL and why Long must be brought back and Incognito extended. Jerry was the weak link in "run blocking" while Martin the weak link in "pass protection". Long and Incognito eventually as the season progressed showed they were good fits for the scheme, with Pouncey being consistent all the way through. Martin showed a little improvement but should eventually improve due to being a rookie. All of them had an awful few games, including Pouncey, but the numbers speak for themselves. So now we should put the OL myths to rest.

Its a bit of a stretch to include Long and Incognito with Pouncey as "strengths." Being one of the better players in a lousy unit doesn't necessarily make you a pillar to build around.

It kind of does when you know (after actually watching him play in years past) if not for the injuries, Long is on that level....maybe higher. Still can't see him getting paid what he is looking for after the type of year he had, but like him or not, Long is a rare breed that can consistantly control his side of the line (Pass-blocking as well as Run-block) when healthy.

Continuity with the scheme with a challenger for Jerry will push Miami's OL to very good. Tannehill's maturity with better decision making will also help improve the OL's numbers overall. Two new starters at WR, an addition to our TEs, and Smith taking the Daniel Thomas snaps and splitting time with Bush will likewise improve the OL's numbers. If Ireland follows this strategy, we will challenge NE for the AFC East title.

I don't agree that what Long is asking for is overpaying. So I disagree with the presumption.
