I don't agree that what Long is asking for is overpaying. So I disagree with the presumption.
So 10 million a year is not overpaying for a guy who hasnt played to a top level in two seasons

forget $10 mil...op wants us to franchise long at $15.3 mil...nuts talk imo

i would have to disagree with some of the game grades on there also...i seem to recall jake long having issues against the raiders in pass pro...and there had to another game other than the colts one which i do recall as a disaster in pass pro for him...

will have to key pouncey also to see this disaster game against the jags...no argument though with jerry in run blocking...on the recent rewatches of the entire season he really stands out as poor in that regard...
hoops scoops...prospects mia should target top 4 rounds 2013 draft...

Its a bit of a stretch to include Long and Incognito with Pouncey as "strengths." Being one of the better players in a lousy unit doesn't necessarily make you a pillar to build around.
It kind of does when you know (after actually watching him play in years past) if not for the injuries, Long is on that level....maybe higher. Still can't see him getting paid what he is looking for after the type of year he had, but like him or not, Long is a rare breed that can consistantly control his side of the line (Pass-blocking as well as Run-block) when healthy.

Really well done and in depth read here. It's definitely an eye opener. Not to say there couldn't be a tweak here or there, but Mike, Jake, and Richie are definitely a nice 3 out of 5.

add Andy Levitre, and draft a top tier OL to replace Long and id say we have a darn good OL. I think Jake Long is fine, but not 10-15 million a year fine. He hasnt performed all too well lately. If he doesnt take 7-8 mill, let him walk and draft an OL. Put Martin at LT, and then draft another young stud OL.

No, it's not. And it being the starting point is also showing he's open to a hometown discount as that asking price is not the "Joe Thomas" asking price many here were swearing he was going to be asking for.

Again he doesn't "have" to. He's a perennial Pro Bowl LT. Point is he's not demanding Joe Thomas money as you and your band erroneously presumed he would be...
