A little disheartening after the first vote went so well. I'm sure the renovation will eventually happen, but if we were hoping to land a Super Bowl in the next few years, there has to be a little more movement by the owners meeting in May. This isn't going to push us in the right direction.

We have real important issues in this state...

    Corporate welfare isn't worthwhile.

Enough of that garbage...sick of my fees taxes and rates going up to subsidize corporate welfare.

Only actual residents understand this. These out of state fans are always talking out of their ass, saying they would be season ticket holders, everything the Dolphins need should be top priority, no excuse not to be a season ticket holder if you're a resident in Miami.

Yeah, I bet if they actually moved in here they would have trouble even looking for a job.

Now there will be a county referendum on the public funding. The Dolphins reversed course and agreed to that today. Looks like they were backed into a corner, sensing it otherwise wasn't going to happen in Tallahassee, given the makeup of the legislature. Dade County typically gets the shaft, let's put it that way.

I'm surprised there isn't a separate thread. I heard about this a couple of hours ago, on the way home from the golf course. I suspect the news posters believe this is bad news, so they are content to ignore it. But I'm not sure it is bad news, for the ones supporting the plan. The Dolphins could never prevail in a high participation general election atmosphere, but a specialized referendum is an entirely different matter, like a primary. The most energized voters dictate the outcome. No doubt the Dolphins will spend tons of money trying to influence who shows up and what they are thinking. Lots of major upsets in primaries.

    I hope it fails miserably.

Regardless, referendums are not cheap. I hope they wait for a situation with other items on the ballot. If it's a solo job, rushed into March or April, the Dolphins should have to foot the bill.

Seeing as how NONE of the taxes proposed would come from any of us living in Florida, your comment is a bit ignorant. Like a lot of our leaders these days, never let the facts get in your way!

Interesting because if the location on your avatar is correct you live in Palm Beach county so if there was a tax hike (which my understanding is the only taxes that go up would only effect tourists) it wouldn't effect you anyway.

Exactly, tourists are the ones who will be paying for the renovations. I am not a local so I am considered a tourist when I come down for Dolphins games. I am perfectly fine with them taxing me to upgrade the stadium.
