Miami Dolphins are willing to let free-agent starters to walk

Letting these guys go and then filling these holes just seems like a lateral move at best, ensuring another 7-9/8-8 season OR WORSE. Starks is better than any replacement would be, so letting him go means our run defense will be worse. Jake Long is still better than every OL we have other than Pouncey. Our OLine gets worse when he goes. If we get Greg Jennings but lose Hartline then we really only make a marginal net improvement for the 2013 season until the rookies we draft learn how to play NFL WR, and that's assuming that they're not typical Ireland busts. If Hartline walks then we need TWO (2) Quality FA WRs to come in, and one of them better be a STUD!

With the number of FAs we have and Jeff Ireland at the controls I have a hard time seeing us being a more talented football team as of August 2013.

Sean Smith has to walk. He sucks. There's no way that anyone could watch that play he had against Ty Hilton on what proved to the game-losing play against the Colts last year and think that that guy should be a #1 NFL CB. NO F'iing Way!

I tend to agree with this article...mostly.

Yes, the reasons are obvious for letting the majority of these guys walk. But what about the non-obvious reasons? This team just went through 4 consecutive losing seasons. Sure there was a coaching change and some productive players were traded, but mostly this roster has been comfortable. How could Sean Smith or Brian Hartline be uneasy when they saw nobody around to threaten their starting job? This team desperately needs an injection of fear. Its roster needs to see that our results are unacceptable and changes are being made. That, regardless of cause, losing wont be accepted any longer.

Let the role players walk. Reward those who have worked hard and been productive. That list includes Randy Starks and....well, thats about it(i also want to resign Long, but he cant stay healthy enough to be included under that criteria). If Hartline and Fasano want to return for fair price, by all means hand it to them. Sean Smith? Bye buddy, we reward production not potential. Richard Marshall? Cut. Koa Misi? Show me a reason to stay on this team. Paul Soliai? Come to camp in shape or dont expect a contract extension next season. Same to you John Jerry.

We need to set a consistent standard that the players can play up to. The coaching aspect is on Philbin and for what its worth he seems to be establishing that. Players pouted and complained, but they still picked up trash and eventually bought into the message when the season began. Now its on Ireland to show the steel hand underneath Philbins velvet glove. He needs to make the tough decisions and let players walk...even if they were handpicked by him years before. No more Legedu Naanee/Richard Marshall/Benny Sapp type crap.

No one has mentioned Clemons. IMO it would be good to resign him, at the right price of course. His speed and youth, and playing another year with Jones, gives Miami a good and young two safety combo.

Joe is going to put his stamp on this team. He will do that by letting most of the FA's go.

let them all walk bring in some players that fit the coaches system and draft well.also would not mind dumping some other players with high salary cap # as well such as the cb Marshall,our K Carpenter and a few others that dont play up to their salary.
time for a new change all across the board.new logo new uniforms new players and new winning trend

i think philbin/ireland will keep certain guys.....once they go hit the market and come to reality in a hurry. the FA market is huge. only 1/3 of teams can buy and most of those dont have alot.

never in fa history has this team ever sat in such a pretty picture.

I would attempt to sign Starks and Bush but I wouldn't be upset if we let them all walk. Upgrades are available via FA and the draft.

That is interesting, considering of all the players, the two that might be easiest to replace with players already on the team are Starks and Bush.

Get rid of Carpenter too. That's an additional 2 million in cap room and Miami can find a hungry better Kicker on last day of draft or as an undrafted free agent. Carpenter right now is like the 3rd highest paid kicker in the league.
