NFL Draft Buzz: Mike Mayock breaks down the Miami Dolphins options at 12th pick

Everybody is talking about trading down but how about this. Say we don't address the WR position via FA and we take care of other positions of need. We could always draft Patterson or Allen at 12 then package our other picks to move up and get the other. Seems like this year would be a good year to get back into the first round if a player your in love with slips a little further than expected.

signing a proven free agent like Wallace or Jennings is less risky than drafting Allen or patterson. Remember the last time we drafted a WR this high (Ted Ginn) yeah it was ugly.

But alot of yall are going to be upset when we pass on a WR in the first and draft another O-lineman, its goina happen

Im good with Lane Johnson but I do have to wonder if they would move Jerry to RT and then get Womack. god this sight will melt down!

plenty of good WR's in this draft who fit what we do later. Nobody knows though. thats the beauty.

I can't believe you just said safety. Really, thats a top priority?
If we dont resign Clemmons, who do you suggest playing day one next to Jones?

I know we have that kid they loved who got injured but whats behind him? no one.

[QUOTE=Phins28;1064586585]Defensive end, wide receiver or corner should be our options not a stinky offensive cornfed lineman.

[QUOTE]Thanks for getting it right. O line is #1 priority, if not O line then pass rusher or D back or safety. WR no way not in the first, not at all use a top pick. Keep it in the trenches /QUOTE]

    QUOTE]

Are all OL cornfed? Because that line is getting overused alot around here. just wondering.

just trust the damn board and stay put at 12, and all the other picks for that matter.

come away with a CB, DE and WR in some order with the first five picks, no matter what.

In terms of skill set, I think Patterson compares very favorably to Percy Harvin. In fact, there's not a single thing that Percy Harvin does that Patterson shouldn't be able to do as well or better. Every knock on Patterson's game can be applied to Harvin - save for being a JUCO transfer, which I don't see as a legitimate knock, just a lazy grading method.

Patterson has MORE talent as an open field runner, and he's bigger. He has better natural hands. What more, he has the size and has shown the ability to do things that Harvin can't. This is where the Julio Jones comparisons come into play. Today, I think Tannehill is a better QB than Ponder. If Harvin can enjoy that kind of success with Ponder, I'm pretty sure Tannehill can do the same with Patterson. Patterson clearly has more upside, because of his size and youth, and he doesn't have the injury concerns, bad-guy concerns that Harvin does. It's unlikely that Harvin will ever be a good route runner. With Patterson, there's still plenty of time to develop - assuming he applies himself. Good NFL coaches find ways to maximize talented players. They don't say, 'Percy, you're not as complete as we'd like you to be, so you can't contribute,' or 'Mike Wallace, your game sucks - save for your blazing speed, so we don't know what to do with you.' If Patterson were to come here, the coaches wouldn't focus on what he can't do. They'd find ways to get him the ball. Save for the Calvin Johnson's of the world, upsides don't get higher than Patterson's. They don't. If you don't know what to do with a kid who has that kind of talent, you shouldn't be coaching.

I think you go 1st round WR IF he's clearly the best one in the whole draft, same with any position. If the best CB in the whole crop is there at #12, you take him. If there's no, clear-cut 'best available' at 12, then maybe you do trade down.

Why is everyone so certain that we will be able to trade down? It's not certainty that we cant find someone. The year that San Diego moved up to take our pick, bo one saw that coming. They took a bust RB that was graded as a late 1st. WE didnt have to take Odrick by the way but we did. If none of the QBs are taken by our pick I can see a team making a move. Maybe even one of the DTs that are getting all kinds of hype. If our top players available all have the same grade and we have to move down 5 or 6 spots, then we should do it. Also moving down a 10 or so picks does not necessarily equal quantity over quality.

Plus we probably won't be the only ones in the 8-15 pick range looking to trade down, so a trade partner moving up will have their choice of teams to work with, imo.
