I'm on the record for wanting Jennings as a FA pickup but if we are talking trades I want Fitzgerald.

There are a couple of reasons the Cards could look to deal him. #1 being that as of now they are already over the salary cap, cutting his $10mil salary would go along way to helping that situation. #2 that team has a long way to go talent wise to compete with the 49ers and Seahawks. With them being over the cap the easiest way to possibly garner more young talent is to trade their high priced players for future draft picks.
When I die I want to hire the Miami Dolphin's to be my pallbearers so they can let me down one last time.

driver was a total nonfactor all year long. any camp body they bring in would be an upgrade from what he gave them last year so losing him is nothing.

Jennings for sure has an impact... but when you still have Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, thats already one of the best tandems in the league right there. If Jones is on the last year of his deal.... they have an incentive to move him for a pick or two rather than extending him with a solid contract or losing him for nothing in FA
they're probably going to lose Jermichael Finley too. i don't think they would "cripple" themselves that much while they still have a window to win the Super Bowl

jones is a bargain by nfl wr terms these days...even if he is somewhat limited as a player...no way packs letting a guy that is financially that much of a bargain walk away
hes only due like 3 million in 2013 and then is a FA in 2014... quite a bargain
but they are only 20 million under the cap this year... still have some free agents to retain and draft class to sign... and on top of it all..... they have contract extensions that have to be done for Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews which are going to be enormous... and if they so choose, for BJ Raji also...... not enough money to go around, and by trimming a few million here or there and picking up a pick or two.... it doesnt look like such an outside idea anymore for them to move him

i hear what you're saying but i see no chance at that contract money they lose jones and jennings in the same season...they'll roll with nelson, cobb, and jones and feel good about it
hoops scoops...prospects mia should target top 4 rounds 2013 draft...

Waste of a thread, guys. Enduro already said it's Fitzgerald.

I have agreed with Enduro that Fitzgerald is the primary target and should be. Would such a deal be difficult to pull off, you bet. But I would not say it is impossible and I think it is def something the Cards need to consider while he is still in his prime. They are at the very least 2 to 3 years away from contending and even then their division is going to be stacked for a while with the Rams also on the rise. They need to officially start to rebuild and should have done so after Warner retired as this team has just been on a steady decline ever since. The team was built for an All Pro QB and without it they don't have the pieces to mask their issues. Beyond the lack of talent on the team they are also very strapped for cash as was mentioned before by mnphinfan so getting Fitz contract off the books would help them immensely.

Now it will almost undoubtedly cost us our number 1 pick this year, but honestly I am completely fine with that. Fitzgerald is no where to be had in this draft class.

So anyway back to the original point, IF you were to assume the Dolphins to be targeting a wide receiver that they would have to TRADE for...who would it be?

Please, in the interests of INTELLIGENT discussion, try and actually give some manner of rationale as to

    A) Why you think that player is available, and
    B) Why the Dolphins would be interested.
Austin would be my go to, its a situation that makes to much sense. But i'll give it a go regardless.

    Mike Williams, Tampa Bay

Why is he be available? While Tampa kept their general manager, Williams was drafted during the Raheem Morris era. Greg Schiano has made no attempts to hide the fact that hes putting his own stamp on that franchise. He traded away Kellen Winslow and Aqib Talib despite both players being acquired with high draft picks. Schiano invested a first round pick into Doug Martin and wasnt afraid to hand the ball off, which will likely stay a focus of his offense. When throwing it down field its clear Schiano is interested in getting the ball to his other high profile acquirement: Vincent Jackson. The combination of offensive focus and having a similar player already under contract might make Tampa to hesitant to extend Williams, who is entering the final years of his rookie deal. While they do have cap space, they need to rebuild their defense and invest in other positions. If given the choice between letting Williams walk for free or getting draft picks in return, i believe Tampa would choose the draft picks.

Why would the Dolphins be interested? Jeff Ireland investigated Williams heavily during his draft. I believe the courtship even got so far as Williams meeting Parcells and Sparano. All of this was rendered moot when we traded for Brandon Marshall right before the draft. While Williams will certain demand a healthy contract, i dont believe he will be making unreasonable demands. By all accounts, he has been a quintessential teammate in Tampa, never voicing any complaints about his ever evolving role. In all likelyhood he will come cheaper then any of the free agents available, which would be incentive for Ireland.

First thing we need to do is sign Jennings. He is the first chess piece and then we take it from there. We don't need to pay hartline to be an average possession receiver. With Jennings in the fold u can then look at bowe or Wallace. If those two don't sign then you sign hartline back, trade for a miles austin, or just go the draft route. For gods sake though, do not let Jennings get away. He needs to be our number one priority
    CAPTAIN COMEBACK!
